Koppel Steel company history timeline

1879

In 1879, the first passenger and freight trains of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad chugged through the area.

1904

In 1904, Koppel was approached by H.A. Ellis, who proposed that the two join forces for a business venture in the United States.

1906

The first homes, however, were constructed in 1906 along Richard Street.

1907

In 1907, the plant was completed and limited production began.

1914

In 1914, the Pittsburgh, Harmony, Butler & New Castle Street Railway constructed a bridge across the Beaver River to run its line through Koppel.

1915

The Pennsylvania Railroad established a station in the borough in 1915.

1919

In late 1919, following the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the government sold the company and town site to Pressed Steel Car Co. of Pittsburgh.
