Our team provides customers with support Special Mission Aircraft (SMA) heavy maintenance and modifications. This business area focuses on the support, design, analysis, modification, integration, ground and flight testing, airworthiness certification, and logistics support of airborne ISR platforms that are primarily highly modified commercial-derivative aircraft. The Staff Mechanical Engineer should have knowledge of and experience with aircraft structural design/analysis as well as the various military, space, or aerospace standards commonly used in the defense and aerospace realm. Roles and Responsibilities:
The candidate will provide liaison support and develop detailed structural analyses in support of drawing release or aircraft repairs including but not limited to free body diagrams, internal or external loading and calculation of internal stresses. These analyses will be in support of Material Review Board (MRB), Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) and fleet management activities.
The candidate should have knowledge of Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), large transport aircraft structural design criteria, nonstandard repairs, and equivalent strength analysis.
Provides technical guidance to liaison engineers in the design and substantiation of aircraft structural modification integration and/or repairs.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, a team player, and possess the ability to research and effectively resolve technical issues both independently and as part of a large multi-disciplined team. **What does this role look like?**
SPP Alpha is looking for a mechanical system engineer to join a fast growing, dynamic program\. If you enjoy being a part of a team that requires creativity, problem\-solving, and is fast\-paced, the missions that SPP delivers will suit you just right\. We're developing cutting\-edge space technologies that are critical to our customers and pushing boundaries of what's possible\.
As the Mechanical System Engineer, you will:
- Drive mechanical design execution through CDR and production phases
- Support development efforts of future blocks
- Be accountable for the execution of mechanical design, mechanical analyses, and development and execution of test plans
- Coordination and collaborate with RSEs and CPEs across the program
- Develop integration and test plans
- Chair the program's Mass Properties Control Board; evaluating mass allocations and trades between components and within segments

**Basic Qualifications:**
- Systems engineering experience with a focus on mechanical deliverables throughout the systems lifecycle\.
- Experience defining and documenting mechanical systems interfaces\.
- Experience with CAD modeling and drafting\.
- Experience with spacecraft design\.
- Experience with mechanical integration, assembly and test\.
- Active or Current Top Secret Clearance or equivalent \(i\.e\. DoE Q\) required to start\.
**Desired Skills:**
- Design for Integration/Testability \(DFM\) experience\.
- Experience with executing towards a System CDR\.
**Security Clearance Statement:** This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration\.

**Pay Rate:** The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York \(excluding most major metropolitan areas\), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $109,200 \- $192,510\. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location\. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only\. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as \(but not limited to\) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer\.
