The dress code at Kroger is fairly strict, requiring employees to wear a specific uniform at work. The most important rule of the dress code is that it should be clean and in good condition.
The uniform of Kroger is a clean white apron, with name tags to be worn at all times. The apron given is a necessary part of the dress code and should be worn at all times while an employee is working in the store. Names tags should be fixed on the right side of the apron.
Employees have the choice to wear any kind of shirt under the apron as long as it is not an undershirt, a crop-top, a muscle shirt, or a camouflage t-shirt. The dress code also prohibits shirts that are too revealing, too tight, or see-through in any way. Hats are only allowed if it has a Kroger logo and should be appropriately worn.
Pants or slacks must be worn at all times during work, and they must be in solid colors of black, blue, beige, or khaki. Any type of shoe is permitted provided that the footwear completely covers the feet. For safety measures and the comfort of the employees, all shoes worn should be closed-heel and closed-toe.
When it comes to the shirt worn underneath the apron, Kroger allows any solid-colored long-sleeve or short-sleeve shirt to be worn. The shirt may be simply, tastefully patterned instead of solid-colored, but it may not be neon, camouflage, or any other distracting prints.
While on the job, employees cannot wear shirts with any writing, graphics, or logos unless they are Kroger branded. Employees also may not wear tank tops, crop tops, muscle shirts, or sheer shirts.
Kroger associates can wear jeans or pants of any solid, standard color such as blue, black, or khaki. Pants must not have any holes, rips, or other distressing. Appropriate length shorts in basic colors can also be worn, as well as skirts. Kroger requires employee pants to cover undergarments at all times and to be clean and presentable.
Kroger has no stated policy against tattoos, piercings, makeup, or unnatural hair colors, but use your discretion. For example, facial tattoos will likely not be acceptable for any customer-facing role, along with excessive, distracting facial piercings. However, typically earrings and other facial jewelry are fine.
Any offensive tattoos will need to be covered up at all times. As long as hair is clean, groomed, and not overly distracting, any color and style are fine. The same applies to makeup. The only major requirement is that you look clean and presentable.
For safety purposes, Kroger requires that all employees wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes. In addition, if you work in any perishables department, you are also required to wear slip-resistant shoes to prevent accidents.
Kroger allows employees to wear hats and accessories if approved by management. For a hat to be approved by management, it can’t have any prints, art, logo, or other graphics on it, save for a Kroger logo. It also needs to be clean and worn properly at all times, meaning the bill must face forward.
When attending an interview at Kroger, keep the previous dress code guidelines in mind. You will not want to stray too far from the stated dress code of the position you are applying to. Besides that, here are some helpful tips on what to wear to your interview:
Make sure your clothes, shoes, and hair are neat and clean.
Wear pants that are on the business casual side, such as dark wash jeans.
If you have any doubts or concerns, hide any piercings or tattoos during the interview and find out policies from co-workers once you land the job.
