I had kind, fair department managers. Co-workers were generally in a good mood, so the atmosphere was pleasant. I appreciated the two 15-minute paid breaks in a day -- Publix, for instance, only provides two 10-minute breaks.
I found the deli and bakery food prep areas to be unsanitary at most any given moment. Dishes would pile up high; few would do them, and most got done at the end of the day. By then, the water (and the food in it) was absolutely disgusting. I was appalled that even store management saw that and didn't put a stop to it. Management would not stand up to the older long-term unionized employees who would waste time and put more onus on the younger or harder-working people in the department. Management just overlooked it because if they tried to push them to work at a reasonable rate, the employees would call it harassment and involve the union, so it wasn't worth all the hassle. When I worked there, I did literally TWICE the work that a more seasoned employee (very pro-union) did, and I was paid HALF as much! They made $12 an hour at the time, and I made $5.99 an hour (this was after 4 years, 37 hours per week). So, basically, they got four times the amount of work out of me. And to be clear, I am a progressive politically, and I support unions, but the UFCW really stands behind people who should be fired, and they know it.
I got a free cookie from the Bakery when I came in in the morning. My biggest perk of working any retail job is interacting with people/customers. I love people. But that is not something that Kroger provides to me. Nothing else I would consider a "perk."
I like that I get to work with many people on a daily basis - people from other grocery departments to managers, to customers. I like this sort of diversity with whom I interact with on a daily basis.
The chaos of it all. The miscommunication between the store manager, general managers, and department managers. I feel like I never know what I'm truly supposed to be doing because of such contradicting messages. Also, to top it off most of the time there still is backlash for doing your tasks. It feels like you could've done task A-D correctly but if you didn't get to task E they're upset, or if you made a small mistake they act like it's the end of the world.
My favorite perk is the employee discount. I enjoy saving money buying what I need for groceries - it helps to have that extra 10% off on Kroger brands for being an employee.
Opportunity, Benefits, Continual Learning and Training.
Communication at times, but overall decent.
Health Benefits
Communication and respectful of employees.
I would work on continued improvements of communication with employees. Employees are the face of your corporation and the ones who deliver service to customers. I would continue to value them and make them feel like they are an important part of the process to deliver quality service to the customer. I would continue to them feel valued for that by creating some type of rewards program for customer service.
I prepared by learning more about the core vales if the company and their expectations on customer service to both their customers and associates.
I enjoy performing quality work for to deliver the best customer service experience.
Great people to work with and great customers!
Variability of hours led to ineligibility for benefits.
Working there led to becoming a cashier. I enjoy working with customers and getting to know them.
They took care of any issues promptly.
Keeping encouragement in regular rotation .
I prepared for an interview by reviewing items I regularly bought there and relating past experience to the retail environment.
Compensation started out lower than most and came closer to average as time went by.
The Kroger I worked at was fully diverse in all ways I can think of.
Working with customers and helping them with concerns and questions brings me the most joy in my job.
It is a fast, but labor-intensive way of making money!
They don't communicate very well with each other, and they don't have any non-food(art-related) departments or any plans to be more inclusive in terms of opening up non-food markets/departments and/or states where they SHOULD expand!
At the moment, it's the $11.75 an hour pay, yet they told me I'd be making .25 cents more this July, STILL WAITING! Unless you get full-time as a courtesy clerk, you will not get the dental, medical and monetary benefits I would get outside of Grocery Store Employment!
The pros of working at Kroger are that the store is nice and clean. Their sales and reduced items are excellent.
The pay for an overnight stocker was barely above minimum wage. The managers yelled from the top down and my boss was racist to those not of his race.
Overtime was available.
get more money
It's a job and they continuesly hire.
Very clicky environment. Don't care much about your ethics
It's a job.
My time off
It very woke. Your better of being odd.
I didnt prepare. I have lots of qualifications and mostly they were irrelevant
It's more woke than a normal environment. People are slobs in the lunch rooms and break areas. It seems the more vulnerable you are the more likely you are to be listened to.
Going home is thr best part of the day and interchange with customers is the best part.

Many great people work for the company. Especially at the store level.
Horrible upper management. Horrible PTO/sick leave policies. This company does not value its people & most people working for this company are miserable. Restrictive work schedules that do not allow for ANY work life balance.

They don’t pay employees. They’ve withheld/stolen my wages for 7+ weeks in an ongoing dispute filed internally and federally. NO ONE from KROGER has contacted or provided me with any details or evidence that they’re taking my issues seriously. They’ve remained complacent in stealing wages from a former employee & have directly ignored their own printed contractual guidelines of employment separation. They’re unwilling to resolve the issue despite a BBB & federal labor & wage complaint filed.

There is way too much miscommunication between management and coworkers. Management does not back you up with what your job description says and has you do other people's work. If you do not finish a task they do not help you find a way to complete it nor offer help to complete it. If something is not done to their standards they make you redo it all or you get wrote up for it.

Steady work. Averaged 28 hr. Per week. Could have worked more hours if I wanted.
During my onboarding seminar, Kroger VP of HR sold the notion that Kroger has a "all inclusive" Corp. culture. This is far from the truth. Kroger, amoung other large corp., legally discriminates against workers. Kroger does not have an "all inclusive" work environment. I know from first hand experience.
Flexible work hours.
