KVC Health Systems company history timeline

1970

In 1970, a group of caring women from the Junior League of Johnson and Wyandotte Counties started the “Wyandotte House” because they saw children in need.

Since 1970, the organization has expanded thousands of miles beyond the Kaw Valley region, serving children and families in five states (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky and West Virginia) and even beyond United States borders.

1987

In 1987, with the help of federal funding from Senator Robert Dole and the efforts of the late Mayor Jack Reardon, KVC’s children’s psychiatric hospital, sitting on a 75-acre campus in Kansas City, Kansas, was dedicated.

1994

1994 – Kaw Valley Center

2000

2000 – Expansion into West Virginia

2003

In 2003, Kaw Valley Center became KVC Behavioral Healthcare to bring our name in line with the scope of our work.

2005

Since 2005, KVC Kansas has safely reintegrated thousands of children back into their homes and successfully matched thousands more children with adoptive families.

2006

2006 – First Children’s Psychiatric Hospital

2010

KVC opened KVC Wheatland Hospital for children’s psychiatric treatment in 2010 in Hays, Kansas to provide acute inpatient services to children and adolescents in central and western Kansas.

2010 – Western Kansas Expansion

2011

2011 – Adoption Celebration

2013

2013 – First Child Trauma Training Center

2015

2015 – KVC Institute Opens

2016

Also that year, KVC created the parent organization, KVC Health Systems, which provides administrative services support to subsidiary organizations. (As of 2016, KVC’s subsidiary organizations include: KVC Kansas, KVC Hospitals, KVC Nebraska, KVC Kentucky and KVC West Virginia.
