    This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, terminating, and testing of electrical equipment/components on ships at our vast, 63-acre facility. Detailed Description: Must have safety mindset. Follows directions under intermittent supervision. Plan layout and install electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications, USCG, and ABS Rules. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Work from ladders, scaffolds, or AWP to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Pull, route, and band cables. Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as it arises. Proper storage of equipment. May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required. Attendance is an essential function of the job. Multiple times a day climb over framing with tooling / wire by stepping over 36" frame / staging, walking 3', squatting under framing, or staging and climbing a 6' ladder. At least two times a day pull wires by lifting 20lbs from the floor and pushing / pulling 50lbs in a hand over hand fashion up to 30'. Occasionally mount wire ways, panels, batteries and transformers by lifting 20lbs from the floor and then in a standing, bending, reaching, or climbing position. Frequently organize equipment for specific jobs by lifting 50lbs from the floor and carrying 25' to place into a bin. Utilize small tools to manipulate small parts for installation and/or repair by gripping / pinching with 10lbs of force. Ability to work in multiple positions to install, terminate, or assist with electrical components throughout the day. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience. F&L is responsible for monitoring DHS shelters as it relates to the maintenance of building systems. The F&L guides shelter staff on ways to improve facility conditions, and the goal of this unit is to ensure funds are being spent on preventive and general maintenance to avoid premature failure of building systems. The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for one (1) Supervisor Electrician who will: * Manage the work of electricians, electrician helpers, and other assigned personnel in altering, repairing and maintaining appliances, equipment and wiring circuits in electrical installations for light, heat and power in or on buildings and/or traffic control systems. * Supervise, coordinate, and perform electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs across assigned facilities. * Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repairs. * Ensure that electrical work complies with city, state, and national codes and standards. * Develop and implement electrical maintenance schedules and safety protocols. * Train and mentor electricians and other maintenance staff on best practices and safety procedures. * Maintain logs and records of all electrical work, inspections, and repairs. * Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues and dispatch appropriate resources. * Collaborate with other maintenance supervisors and departments to ensure the smooth functioning of all facilities. * Make decisions relative to work procedures; prepare work schedules and make work assignments. * Conduct field inspections in connection with electrical installations and components of systems relative to work progress or need for alterations, maintenance and repairs. * Prepare job orders and tool and material requisitions. * Oversee the complete operation of the department shop; consult with staff personnel, contractors, inspectors, and manufacturers' representatives in connection with department work. SUPERVISOR ELECTRICIAN - 91769 Minimum Qualifications 1. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician acquired within the last fifteen years, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or 2. At least four years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or training in the electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper experience, apprentice training or training in the electrical field. However, all candidates must have had at least one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a supervising electrician acquired within the last fifteen years. License Requirements A Motor Vehicle Driver license valid in the State of New York. All licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment. Position Summary The Electrician is responsible for installing and repairing wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities, following blueprints and wiring diagrams. The individual must have working knowledge of electrical theory and procedures and the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install shipboard electrical systems and equipment (600 V and less) in accordance with specifications and drawings. Essential Skills and Functions Installs conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires through conduit to terminals, such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels. Strip insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron. Runs cables, lines and leads, terminations/connector fabrication, packing of cable transits and harnessing cables. Connects power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment. Tests electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators. May construct instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers, and power drills, following specifications. Test internal circuits of major units or electrical equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measure electrical quantities and compare with established values. Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc. Requirements Position Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a U.S. person. Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces. Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions. Must be available to work Monday - Thursday, 5:00am to 3:00pm Must be able to lift 50lbs. Education and Experience Must have five (5) years of related electrical installation and repair experience with a general knowledge of blue prints and hand tools.
