The Dental Assistant is responsible for performing chair side support services, procedures, and general office procedures under the supervision of a dentist. Responsibilities: * Assist the DDS/DMD with patient care by providing and explaining the DDS/DMD instructions * Clean room after finishing with procedures * Route patient back to the front desk with post-examination/procedure instructions (i.e. to check out, schedule next appointment, etc.) * Clean all instruments after procedures * Prepares and maintains all dental instruments, supplies, and equipment * Call next patient immediately after setting up the exam room * Maintain inventory and order supplies list * Assure proper operation and maintenance of equipment by performing inspections * Be able to perform Spore test weekly, clean autoclave weekly (following proper procedures) * Take X-rays (proper certification required) * Take oral impressions for diagnostic and opposing models * Remove post-extraction and periodontal dressings * Prepare dental materials, including but not limited to, cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc. * Apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents * Apply topical fluoride, after scaling and polishing by the supervising DDS/DMD or RDA * Place and remove rubber dams or other isolation devices * Place, wedge, and remove matrices for restorative procedures * Responsible for dental charting * Delivers patient personal care oral instructions * When needed, delivers community dental health presentations * Plans, assembles, and manages health fair booths * Performs extra oral duties or functions specified by the supervising DDS/DMD. * Maintain effective communication and working relationships with other employees and patients Job Requirements Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent Certification: Dental Assistant Certificate, Current valid CPR certification. Experience: 1-2 years' experience in a dental office or similar setting as a front or back office Dental Assistant preferred Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual preferred. Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills. Technical knowledge and skills required to perform the job: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. Demonstrate high levels of self-initiation and direction. Knowledge of communities we serve. Knowledge and experience working in medical settings and interacting collaboratively with medical teams. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions. Responsibilities: * Builds positive relationships, inspires others to perform at a higher level, prepares career development plans and retains an accountable workforce. * Coaches and counsels staff and administers appropriate disciplinary action in a timely manner. * Gathers, enters and analyzes data on programs, creating relevant and usable reports on program data and metrics. Reviews and assists in determining the linguistic and cultural appropriateness of materials, teaching aids, activities, methods, strategies, programs, etc. Review the efficacy of materials and programs and provides positive, action-oriented feedback. Assists with the translation and/or revisions of translated materials as appropriate. * Performs group/individual assessments and counseling and provides patients with current, accurate health information. Certifications required: Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma and CPR certification Experience requirements Experience: 1-2 years' experience in a community clinic, Physician office or hospital setting as a Medical Assistant preferred. Responsibilities * Moves the patient from the waiting room to an examination room in a timely manner. * Takes the patient's vitals, documents the results in NextGen and informs the RN or physician of any abnormalities. * Records the patient's medications and performs medication reconciliation, if applicable. * Perform and records a hearing and vision test, when necessary, and records in NextGen. * Records patient complaint, patient complaint details, allergies, smoking status, smoking cessation, family, social, and medical history as part of intake on NextGen. * Administers standing orders as they pertain to patient concerns. * Updates immunization records in NextGen, if applicable. * Scans the necessary lab, x-ray, emergency room forms, or other important documents within the medical chart for the physician to be evaluated during the examination. * Records all phone calls electronically within NextGen. * Prepares the patient for a physician examination. * Prepares needed equipment and supplies within the examination room. * Checks the examination room for cleanliness. * Administers and documents treatments, procedures and injections. * Assists physicians with examinations. * Translates between the physician and the patient by explaining diets, treatments or special instructions to be followed by the patient. Translations must be verbatim to what has been stated by the physician, unless instructed otherwise. * Gathers and performs necessary lab, x-ray, immunization, etc., for the patient, as instructed by the physician. * Administers medications by mouth, as instructed by the physician. * Performs treatments as ordered by provider and supervised by the RN. * Cleans specialty areas to provide back-up coverage and assist as necessary (Pediatrics, OBGYN). The MA must be knowledgeable of specialty services, instruments, supplies and equipment. * Removes all contaminated items in the examination rooms before exiting. * Soaks instruments as needed in special solutions. (Depending on specialty).
