Working in adverse weather, overtime work, and weekend work. Equipment may include: riding and push mower, string trimmer, blower, back pack blower and sprayer, tractor, ZTR, hedger, edger, chain saw. Storm debris cleanup, drain cleaning, laying sod, weed removal, mulching, digging, grading, cleaning signs and other items, painting, pressure washing, and planting. This job will primarily focus on maintenance related to ornamental plants, but subject to change depending on departmental needs. Job Duties: 50%- Operation of power riding mower (25HP or less), trimmer, edger, blower, hedger, etc. to maintain grounds, sidewalks, plazas, building entrances, canals, building perimeters, road sides, etc. in a neat, clean, and safe condition. Support arboriculture service with labor to chip limbs, haul debris, perform light chain saw work, pruning, chemical spraying, etc. 25%- Apply chemicals to control weeds, control pests, fertilize and amend soils, apply mulch to beds and under tree canopies, perform weed removal, assist with ornamental and flower planting, litter removal, litter container servicing for cleanliness, cigarette butt removal, etc. Maintain interior plants to include watering, pruning, fertilizing, relocation, rotating, cleaning, treatment for disease and insects. 10%- Assist with irrigation work, digging, grading, drain basin cleaning, concrete repair labor as needed 10%- Perform inspections on mobile equipment and vehicles. Change blades and tires as necessary on mowers, keep some records. Assist with preventative maintenance as required. Work special events (athletic, fraternity, public, etc.) to assist with litter control and related cleanup. 5%- Perform related work as assigned Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
