    The Research Associate 3 (RA3) will plan, assist, and conduct highly independent research, upon approval of the Principal Investigator, working on the project titled ‘Viral Oncolysis of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma”. The RA3 will assist with studying novel cancer therapeutic development including viral cancer treatments. The incumbent will monitor and maintain all in vivo experiments. They will also manage and perform lab operations (including daily and routine maintenance of lab equipment and instruments and lab safety inspection), test and evaluate methods and protocols for research projects, and purchase and/or recommend purchase of lab supplies, reagents and new equipment for research projects. Together with the Principal Investigator, the RA3 is expected to analyze, summarize and organize collected data, draft, edit and revise reports and manuscripts for publication in professional journals. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the RA3 will generally be responsible for the scientific operations of the laboratory, working with senior collaborators in conducting scientific experiments and, training junior level staff members, Fellows, and students.

The employee will be responsible for performing experiments in Biosafety level 2 laboratories. The employee will be trained in Biosafety protocols by the Principal Investigator as well as by the Institutional Department of Biosafety. Necessary experiments include those involving cellular immunology and microbiology, in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The candidate should be able to work independently under minimal supervision under biosafety level 2+ conditions. The candidate will also be in overall charge of the laboratory including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and general laboratory maintenance.• Ability to perform meticulous laboratory work with careful attention to detail, and in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures. * Familiarity with bio-molecular and animal research work. * Strong organizational skills. * Bachelor of Science Degree * 0-1 Laboratory experience * A Bachelor's degree (BS) in any one of the following streams of sciences: microbiology, immunology, cell-biology, genetics, molecular biology, infectious disease, biological or general science. * Two years of work experience with cellular immunology techniques such as ELISPOT assays, cytotoxicity assays, ELISA and flow cytometry assays and with molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction, and real time PCR. * Knowledge of BSL2 and BSL3 bio-containment principles, both for animal and laboratory space is required. * Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. * Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

The Biocontainment Research Specialist I will be trained by the Lab Manager as well as by the Institutional Department of Biosafety and will work on Risk Group 3 (RG3) agents such as, coxiella burnetii, Bacillus antracis, Brucella abortis, Burkholderia pseudomallei and coronaviruses. Necessary experiments include those involving molecular biology, pathology, immunology and microbiology, in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The Medical Research Specialist will also be responsible for performing rodent studies and be required to work weekends as needed. The Medical Research Specialist conducts research analysis and prepares reports; manage daily operational functions of the laboratory, maintains experimental records; orders and keeps track of laboratory specimens, supplies and inventory, contributes to publication research and development activities, as well as monitors work performance of lab assistants and student researchers, as assigned. Ensure OSHA, Biosafety and University medical, safety and training requirements are met for the laboratory. This position will require occasional travel between Biocontainment laboratories at TNBRC, Covington and Tulane University's School of Medicine located in New Orleans as needed based on research needs. This position has job duties that require accessing the BSL3 containment areas. There will be additional minimum requirements including some or all of the following: * Must obtain and maintain clearance of a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins. * Must pass a medical respiratory physical to wear respiratory protection. * Must participate in and be in compliance with TNBRC drug and alcohol policy.
