Provides Lab patient services that include phlebotomy/specimen processing as applicable to assigned area(s). Follows processes for Target Zero in order to provide patient safety throughout all tasks.
Qualifications:


+ Phlebotomy experience/completed college course work in phlebotomy or science preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.


+ Current CPR certification per assigned area(s).


+ Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.


+ Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.


+ Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.


+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.


+ Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.


Job Specific Duties:


+ Exhibits good judgment in the application of venipunctures. Recognizes when to ask for assistance on difficult or challenging specimen collections. Explains collection procedures clearly to patients for specimen collections.


+ Serves as an advocate/educator for improved collection and ordering procedures for assigned area(s) as applicable.


+ Serves as contact for inquiries in order to provide timely status and processing updates of specimens. Escalates unresolved issues per department procedure and protocol.


+ Accurately orders and cancels tests and ensures correct patient identification and information.


+ Answers or refers inquiries promptly and courteously per department procedure.


+ Verifies patient identification prior to collection and labels specimens accurately. Handles incoming specimens, sorts and delivers to processing, and checks accuracy of requisition and labeling of specimens per department protocol.


+ The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position.

  • Receive laboratory samples and check them for accuracy
  • Ensure that the labels on the specimens coincide with the information provided in the associated file
  • Check specimens for contamination before preparing them for tests
  • Put specimens through various stages of analysis in order to acquire accurate information
  • Verify patient information with 2 points of patient identity and enter into LIS system
  • Prepare excess samples for storage or retesting
  • Ensure that all analysis and preparation stages are documented properly

Our diagnostic spectrum of tests in the areas of chemistry, pathology, endocrinology, serology, hematology, and microbiology enhance veterinarians' ability to detect, diagnose, evaluate and prevent disease and other conditions affecting animals.

Antech Diagnostics is looking for outstanding Laboratory Aides and Assistants for overnight, 3rd shift positions throughout our veterinary diagnostic reference lab locations. The ideal candidates will have experience working in either a reference or hospital laboratory, or have strong experience performing lab duties as a Vet Tech.
We are looking for candidates who specialize in one or more of the following areas:

+ Hematology- Testing cell-related components of blood samples to enumerate and identify their cellular components, including the microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques.

+ Urinalysis- Analysis and evaluation of chemical and microscopic components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.

+ Chemistry/Endocrinology- Testing blood and body fluids for various analytes, utilizing automated instrumentation.

+ Immunology/Serology- Testing blood and other samples for the presence of viral and bacterial disease by detecting antibodies (AB) or antigens (AG).

+ Parasitology- examining samples to identify parasites, utilizing fecal flotation and various microscopic techniques.

The Laboratory Aide is responsible for setting up instruments, collection of samples, load samples into instruments and prepare samples for laboratory technicians.

+ Sets up lab tests, processes specimens, retrieves and releases test results, and assists in test research

+ Manages lab inventory, procures supplies and stocks shelves

+ Responsible for general lab maintenance and overall cleanliness of lab and lab equipment

+ Supports and maintains various processes, systems and databases

+ High School Diploma or equivalent required, 2, 3 or 4 year degree in Science-related field preferred.

+ Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments a plus

+ General science background, including hematology/chemistry helpful.

+ Must be reliable - attendance is an essential function of the position.

+ Attention to detail.

+ Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

+ Communication skills, both verbal and written.

+ Fair level of computer literacy preferred.

+ Positive, can-do attitude.
