The ACF Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Animal Care Facility (ACF) at any of the MEE sites. The ACF Supervisor will work with the ACF Manager, Director, and the Consulting Veterinarians to ensure that the facility meets all applicable state and federal regulations in addition to AAALAC Guidelines when applicable.
Essential Functions

1. Maintain all areas of the ACF according to dictated standards for cleanliness, safety, and animal welfare to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional requirements. Ensure that the facility and its equipment are in excellent operational condition to ensure the health and safety of the animals and users of the facility.

2. Supervise the work-flow of the animal care technicians. Schedule staff work and vacation hours to provide appropriate staffing coverage within the facility and ensure that all daily assignments are satisfactorily completed. Participate in employee hiring, performance evaluation, and termination decisions.

3. Perform daily routine husbandry procedures and health checks as needed, reporting any abnormal findings or unusual behavior to the Consulting Veterinarian or authorized designee.

4. In collaboration with the ACF Manager, provide ongoing training in the care of animals to the ACF staff. In collaboration with the Consulting Veterinarian, ACF Manager, and Director, provide ongoing training in the care of animals to investigators and laboratory personnel.

5. Perform assigned technical duties such as administration of medications, injections, fecal and tissue collections, phlebotomies, and euthanasia. Provide veterinary assistance to investigators during pre, intra and post-surgery as needed.

6. Ensure that all supplies and animals are ordered in a timely manner and that proper documentation is maintained as required. Participate in daily inspection of the animal facilities to assure compliance with established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, employee safety guidelines, environmental and infection control.

7. Maintain the ACF and its equipment in good working condition. Place work orders for repairs; recommend and assist in selection of new equipment purchases.

8. Keep census and records of health status and post-operative care of animals in the facility as required and assists in the monthly animal housing per diem billing.

9. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with all MEE staff.

10. Participates in weekend/holiday assignments for caring, feeding, and observing animals as needed.

3. Experience with USDA regulated species required.

4. LATG certification preferred; CVT or LVT licensure a plus.
