In This Role: In the Parasitology Department, to be clear, you'll be working specifically with the fecal samples we receive. We can learn a lot about a pet's health via what's happening in the litter box. In this role, you'll be assisting with the process of preparing the samples and getting them ready to go under the microscope for analysis. You might be picking up the samples from Sample Management, racking up samples, adding liquid chemicals, restocking, treating samples, or moving those samples along in the process. Successful candidates in this role are happy with repetitive work processes, are able to follow SOP's, are excited about a job that is fast-paced, science-based and always busy, working towards TAT each morning. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to: Currently our greatest need is in our Parasitology Department. This is the area of the lab where fecal samples are analyzed. You might be racking up samples, adding liquid chemicals, restocking, treating samples, or moving those samples along in the process You may be restocking supplies, such as chemicals or slide trays. You could be helping to load analyzers with slides of samples. You might be assisting with inventory counts. You will be asked to help in out many ways - and your help is needed! Pay & Schedule: Hourly rates targeting: $22.00 This is a temporary position where you will be working 40 hours / week. The scheduled shifts are Tuesday - Saturday, 4:00 am - 12:30 pm, with Sunday and Monday off. The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. Sometimes during our busy season, we ask workers if they would be able to work overtime, and stay until the work is complete. What You Will Need to Succeed: You are able and willing to work the schedule above on the day shift. You are reliable and flexible - attendance is an essential function of the position. A willingness to work with and around veterinary samples, including blood, urine, fecal, and biopsies. You are excited to work in a fast-paced, high volume busy work environment. You are able to sit or stand for long periods of time; you do not mind being on your feet and moving throughout the night as needed. You can read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), material safety data sheets (MSDSs), operating and maintenance instructions, government rules, and technical procedures. You must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task. You possess strong initiative and follow through with outstanding attention to detail. You are able to work independently and as a team contributor. Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, ability to move or maneuver through various departments around the lab, use of hands, fingers, and arms to handle microscopes, pipettes, lab instruments and controls, occasional need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift up to 25lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. What you'll be doing Conduct critical chemical and physical analysis on raw materials, initial, in-process and final products, and samples collected from the environmental monitoring programs at the Round Lake manufacturing facility. Work under minimum supervision. Serve as mentor to Quality Laboratory Associate (QLA) I positions. Provide training and work direction for QLA I positions as required. Perform review of test data, which includes overall documentation practices. Perform release functions in LIMS or other computerized systems. Use sophisticated laboratory instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC) and computer systems to collect and record data. Perform advanced chemical assays requiring precise analytical skills and understanding of biology and chemistry principles. Complete all testing, including special project / protocol testing in a timely and appropriate manner. Maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with company SOPs and specifications, FDA, GLP, QSR and cGMP regulations. Participate in functions involving teams, which impact production, increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings, and improve quality. Perform laboratory and manufacturing audits as required. Audit and update, as required, plant SOPs. Perform equipment maintenance and calibrations as required. Document the completion of testing in Notebooks, Controlled documents, Forms and LIMS and maintain accurate and complete quality records. Follow, understand, and comply with Baxter SOP's and policies on cGMP's and safety. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab area, and potentially assume responsibility to ensure that others maintain their lab areas. Investigate deviations and write exception/OOL/OOS/OOT documents. Support improvement projects and drive efficiency through utilization of LEAN management principles (i.e., 6S, Kaizen, etc.). Proactively and cooperatively communicate with peers and management to ensure awareness of progress and issues; recommend solutions when issues arise. Maintain and meet the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance. What you'll bring Bachelor degree in Chemistry or physical science with 2 or more years' experience. Must have good oral and written communication skills, strong analytical skills and be detail oriented. Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices is preferred. Advanced laboratory skills with basic knowledge of statistical methods. Strong technical problem solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and in a timely fashion. Knowledge of Empower Chromatography Data System and LIMS is preferred but not required. Knowledge of GLP, cGMP requirements and familiarity with USP/ICH guidelines is preferred but not required. Must demonstrate effectiveness in ability to train others, empowerment, leadership, results orientation, and task completion. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated, demonstrates adaptability, and possesses a positive attitude in a highly dynamic environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required. Occasional weekend work required. Must not be color blind. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $64,000 - $88,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive.
