The Hospital Specimen Preparation Technician (HSPT) is responsible for daily preparation of patient specimens from hospital clients. The HSPT must demonstrate a mastery of all functions of specimen preparation for submission to multiple Quest Diagnostics facilities, as well as Rapid Response Laboratories (RRL). The HSPT works with minimal direction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the HSPT is required. The majority of HSPT work is on the day shift, but flexibility is required for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on client requirements. Responsibilities Responsible for preparation of patient specimens for hospital clients and pick up by couriers. Responsible for positive daily client interactions representing Quest Diagnostics to the customer (face-to-face and/or telephone). Prepares and arranges all stat testing needs, researches pending results, alerts Hospital IT to communication failures, accepts and troubleshoots incoming calls to the Hospital Lab from Quest Diagnostics facilities. Demonstrates excellent proficiency in test ordering policies, procedures, specimen requirements for test ordering, sample preparation,Care 360 and compliance/legal requirements. Troubleshoots and problem solves client issues related to area of responsibility. Communicates and collaborates effectively with the Hospital Lab Manager, as well as the Quest Diagnostics sales team and other functions in the organization. Relays client concerns to Quest Diagnostics supervisor and sales. Participates in sales/operations review of account. Communicates information regarding problem-solving with specimens, test cancellations, testing requirements, billing requirements with various hospital staff, such as phlebotomy, outpatient draw centers, laboratory managers, department supervisors, Hospital IT Analysts, physicians, nurses, and pathologists. Develops understanding of the company processes, as well as the client expectations. Develops understanding of the compliance policies related to test ordering. Researches test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services. Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received. Completes all required written documentation, legibly and within the assigned timeframe Performs other duties as assigned. Medical Center: UH: Transfusion Service- Variable shift AM and PM. Shift times as 0600-1430 and 1500-2330 respectively. Shift will be assigned as either AM or PM depending on departmental needs. Recruitment Incentive Bonus: may be eligible for $9,000 recruitment incentive bonus based on eligibility requirements Job Summary: The Clinical Lab Scientist-Transfusion, performs and interprets moderate and high complexity tests, reports results and prepares blood products following standard operating procedures and current Good Manufacturing Practices, under general supervision. Monitors pending lists. Meets or exceeds turn-around time goals for test production and result reporting. Performs instrument and equipment calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Serves as a technical resource including problem solving, troubleshooting, interpreting/consulting, and verifying specimen quality and test results. Serves as a preceptor/mentor to students, residents, and staff. Each CLS only performs those tests for which they are authorized and have demonstrated the required skill commensurate with the education, training, and technical abilities. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field required. Minimum three years of experience in high complexity, computerized clinical laboratory as licensed CLS preferred. Experience with automated Blood Bank testing instruments. Experience with smart blood dispensing fridges preferred. Minimum one year of Blood Bank only experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of medical lab standard operating procedures, types of software used, and equipment. Ability to perform complex clinical lab tests and interpret and analyze data, to determine the clinical significance of test results. Able to use and maintain specialized lab equipment needed to perform all lab procedures. Must be able to articulate logical and well -founded arguments that support conclusions and exhibit excellent dexterity and analytical skills. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment. $2775/Weekly Gross: $1305/Week Taxable ($29/hr, $32.63/hr blended), $1470/Week Tax Free Stipends, Up to $600 for Travel Reimbursement Included. 56 cents per mile up to $300 each way. Paid out 2nd pay check and last pay check. Mileage calculated based on permanent address to facility address. $15/hr for Orientation 13 weeks 7a-530p with 4/10 hour shifts M-F plus on call wit Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology knowledge Attention to detail, high level of accuracy Use of radiologic equipment Extensive knowledge in the use of an auto injector Competent at table side scrub in with a Cardiologist on various cath lab procedures Understands the use of an IVUS machine. Solid understanding of English, grammar, and punctuation. Ability to exercise independent judgment on a regular basis. Schedule Notes:7a-530p with 4/10 hour shifts M-F plus on call with 24 hour services. Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and to foster teamwork among fellow staff members. Must have experience in performing a variety of Interventional Radiology (I.R.) procedures, e.g., PICC Line insertions, aortic run-offs, dialysis catheter insertions, percutaneous nephrostomy tube insertions/exchanges, Quintin Catheter procedures, or tunneled Catheter insertions, etc Education: Minimum two years experience as a registered Radiology Technologist in an acute care facility. Interventional Neurology and/or EP experience strongly preferred Graduate from a certified school of Radiologic Technology Active California Radiology Technologist (CRT) license along with fluoro license and active American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) license required; OR RCIS required. BLS required ACLS required obtained within 90 days of hire ARRT, CA Fluro permit requirements: ARRT, CA Fluro permit, BLS, and ACLS.
