    Laboratory Assistant - PRN Salary Range: $21.50 - $25.80 per hour, based on relevant years of experience Status: On-Call (PRN) Employees working at locations operating 24/7 earn a differential. Role Overview: Responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests and analyses on patient samples, providing accurate and timely results to support healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Work in a clinical laboratory setting and collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure the highest standard of patient care. Essential Duties: Evaluate each request for a laboratory test to identify the proper number and type of containers necessary to facilitate distribution to appropriate laboratory sections and reference labs. Process specimens per testing lab requirements in a timely manner. Perform and assist with updates on all laboratory testing by Laboratory Procedure Manual guidelines. Perform quality control appropriate for the testing performed and document on the appropriate log. Remediate and document difficult tests or abnormal findings. Troubleshoot equipment failure and document the problem, steps taken, and final corrective actions. Call and document critical (panic) values to a provider or licensed staff. Review logs for clerical accuracy, clinical indications, and prepare for monthly audits. Document instrument checks, preventative maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective actions taken. Recognize, analyze, and take corrective action to resolve instrument or clinical problems. Assures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, proper daily documentation and collection and analysis of appropriate samples. Utilizes available resources to maintain and fix instrumentation or problem solves issues in collaboration with the Medical Technologist. Completes a minimum of five continuing education contact hours per year or ten contact hours per two years. Utilizes Laboratory Information System (LIS) and network appropriately and efficiently.
