Project Name: Infrastructure Lab Support Interns Preferred Degree: Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering. Project Description: The general objectives of these projects are to support research through data collection aimed at enhancing railway safety, performance, and efficiency. Supported projects may include, but are not limited to, rail inspections, slow-bend weld testing, electric flash butt (EFB) weld testing, and the development of work instructions and/or standard operating procedures. Funding for these projects may come from the Association of American Railroads as part of MxV Rail's Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) program, the Federal Railway Administration (FRA), MxV Rail's internal research and development efforts, and/or commercial customers. Primary Duties: * Learn, support, grow & have fun supporting projects with the Infrastructure and Metallurgy teams. * Support laboratory and/or field-testing, including data collection system/sensor/equipment preparation, troubleshooting, test setup, collecting, analyzing, & data submittal. * May support testing in the lab and/or outdoors in the field. * Act as a member of the infrastructure team by participating in projects, training, team meetings, and other focus areas of the engineering group. * Ensures that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Work with the operations team to conduct testing and record results. * Slow Bend Testing of Thermite Welds * Work with project managers and the test instrumentation lead to perform a slow-bend test. Perform pre- and post-test measurements and collect data during testing. Create plots of the recorded data and analyze the trends present in the data. * Cutting and Breaking EFB Welds * Work with the Metallurgy Lab Team on the bandsaw and hydraulic press for test preparation. Document and analyze breaks for different EFB welds and assist project managers in recording test results. Work with the Metallurgy Lab Team on cutting and prepping samples. * Work Instructions (WIs)and Statement of Procedures * Assist Metallurgy lab staff in revising and writing WIs and SOPs. Revise already written Wis and SOPs and put them in the correct templates. Write new SOPs and WIs for new equipment. Perform CLIA waived/non-waived tests Perform EKG's Set up lab, procedure and examination rooms daily. Collect, log, use microscope and spin urines. Prepare urine for cultures, PCA3's and cytology. Keep patient rooms stocked with supplies and medication samples. Autoclave all necessary instruments. Keep logs of all tests ordered. Run lab controls daily. Print lab orders. Distribute lab results, reports, etc. to appropriate physicians. Set-up, assist other nurses and clean up for procedures: Cystoscopes Hydrocele aspiration Stent Removal Flow Rates/PVR Vasectomies BCG, Intron A Fulguration Cath insertion/removal Clean and disinfect lab and exam rooms. Use of proper grammer and appropriate language with all communication. Assist the Clinical Manager, Practice Administrator and Physician's with the orderly business operation as necessary, including but not limited to assisting other employees as directed. Answer phones in a timely manner, using appropriate telephone etiquette. Conduct business in a professional manner at all times, treating patients and coworkers with respect and dignity: mindful to avoid the use of inappropriate language and behavior. Provide ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Respond to emergency situations throughout medical facility. Document emergency situation to supervisor. Implement patient teaching plans for areas of prostate cancer, kidney stones, BPH, infertility, and other areas as designated. Act as patient advocate and resolve patient problems. Bring unresolved issues to Clinical Supervisors attention. Perform other related duties as directed. This role collaborates across departments, including laboratory personnel and shipping/receiving, to ensure smooth and efficient laboratory and facility operations. This role is ideal for individuals eager to contribute to the efficient operation of laboratory facilities while ensuring safety and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Perform, coordinate, schedule, and track regular maintenance, calibration, and repair of general-use equipment (e.g., balances, pH meters, pipettes, DI water systems, refrigerators, freezers); manage communication and coordination with internal stakeholders and service vendors. Maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records in spreadsheets and laboratory inventory management software. Respond to, coordinate, and execute facility related requests submitted through an online ticketing system. Participate in the on-call rotation of temperature monitoring for all laboratory refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and lab areas using environmental software. This will require response to alarms during business hours and occasionally after-hours response. Identify and create purchase orders for the supply of common laboratory equipment parts and general laboratory needs. Support the delivery of inert gas (nitrogen and argon) supply. Support the disposal coordination of radioactive, hazardous and biohazard waste, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Serve as a point of contact for general office support needs. Assist with the setup, coordination, and cleanup of on-site events. Assist with the setup and teardown of laboratory workstations or other minor facility repairs/upgrades. Adhere to and promote all Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures. · Other duties as assigned. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of 1 year of laboratory or facilities support experience is preferred. Skills and Experience: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional coordination.
