Key Responsibilities: Follow lab protocols for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting results. Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled like patient specimens. Analyze specimens using approved procedures as per department SOPs. Review and release test results promptly. Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety standards. Document all quality control activities, including calibrations and maintenance. Follow procedures if test systems are outside established performance levels. Identify and correct problems that affect test results or notify the senior technologist/supervisor. Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance standards. Follow proper procedures for reporting STAT or critical results to clients. Respond to customer or lab personnel inquiries as needed. Maintain accurate records of all testing performed on-site. Ensure reagents/test kits are labeled with received, expiration, and opened dates. Required Knowledge: A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing is required for this position. The successful candidate must possess good computer skills and be able to adapt to working in multiple computer systems. Must know about QC and QA, as well as know all areas of the laboratory. Qualifications: BS in Medical Technology, or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology. Alternatively, previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published on March 14, 1990). Experience: At least one year of clinical experience in high complexity testing is preferred. A minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience is required for candidates with a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.
