The Shivanand R Patil Cytogenetics and Molecular lab, within the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, is seeking an experienced cytogenetic laboratory specialist II. The lab utilizes classical and molecular cytogenetic techniques, including chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and chromosomal microarray (CMA), for diagnosis or treatment in cancer and constitutional genetic disorders. In this role, the cytogenetic laboratory specialist II will perform components of cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic studies according to established laboratory protocols and work to maintain and improve the clinical testing environment, capabilities and quality of data in the laboratory.
This position is first shift (8am - 5pm) and must be able to accommodate approximately 5-6 Saturday workdays and one holiday every year as part of a rotating schedule with other technologists.
We intend to hire for one position at either the Cytogenetic Lab Specialist I, requisition #24005255, or Cytogenetic Lab Specialist II, requisition #24005256, or Medical Lab Tech, requisition #24005276 based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
Position Responsibilities:
Independently performs all aspects of cytogenetic, FISH or microarray, NGS wet bench procedures according to established protocols to provide high quality sample preparations with minimal supervision.
Accurately identifies complex abnormalities in G-banded chromosomes (chromosome section) or accurately scores FISH probes on non-FFPE samples (FISH section) or performs complete analysis of CMA data (CMA section).
Correctly uses ISCN when recording results.
Has performed analysis of a variety of abnormal cases (e.g. different specimen types, indications and abnormalities).
Correctly writes up cases using established report templates.
Maintains accurate records of all lab results, procedures and quality control metrics.
Evaluates sample quality and trouble shoots problems with the guidance of the section coordinator.

* Dispenses blood products that are compatible for the patient being transfused.

* Prepares surgical specimens and other designated specimen types for transport to MCU. Prepares packing list/bill of lading as required/necessary.
* After consultation with/direction from a Decedent Care Specialist, and in collaboration with Safety/Security staff, releases decedents from the body hold cooler when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution, or
* Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or eligible from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or
* Successfully completed an official US military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) is required.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is highly desirable.
* Previous experience in a laboratory performing moderate and/or high complexity testing in blood baking, chemistry, hematology, and/or microbiology, which may include program training experience, is highly desired.

Preparing patient and equipment for cardiac lab procedures by preparing site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrating and setting up pressure transducers and tubing.
Operating and ensuring the quality control of all equipment utilized in the cardiac cath lab. Knowledge of all related equipment within the laboratory.
Scrubbing in during procedures, assisting the physician in maneuvering catheters.
Obtaining and recording hemodynamic, electrical, and angiographic data by operating-hemodynamic and electrical amplifiers and digital and line fluoroscopic equipment.
Monitoring the patient's hemodynamic status during procedures in the cardiac cath lab.
Participating in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Cath Lab Rads should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean or stoop without difficulty.
Must have 1 year of experience. The Cath Lab Rad must have BLS, ACLS, ARRT (R) -CI preferred or CCI-RCIS certification, and state specific licensing when required.

Working Conditions:
During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100° F for entire scheduled work day.
During winter months outside temperatures can be below 0° F for entire scheduled work day.
During and after heavy rains the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy and difficult to maneuver on.
During different job duties the noise inside or outside barns can become very loud.
Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.
Will be exposed to electrical boxes and electrical machinery that are not to be entered or repaired by those who are not certified in basic electrical training and/or lock out tag out.
Will be exposed daily to procedures that may cause contact with hazardous materials.

Join the MercyOne Genesis Family! We are looking to hire a Lab Technician! As a Lab Technician at MercyOne Genesis, you will: * Be proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
* Utilize use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
* Educate patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
* Review orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
* Process specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
* Ready specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
* Perform both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
* Keep accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm - rotating weekends & holidays
General Requirements:
* Less than 1 year experience required
* Medical Assistant or Certified Phlebotomist preferred
Education:
* High school plus additional course work up to 1 year
