Laboratory Assistant Department: 2450|Mechanical Engineering Responsibilities: The College of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Assistant to support the manufacturing instructional laboratories and facilitate hands-on student learning, faculty research, and prototype development across various engineering disciplines. The ideal candidate will play an integral role in assisting the mechanical engineering and engineering and technology management programs in adopting advanced manufacturing technologies and processes. This position aims to prepare future professionals for the evolving field of advanced manufacturing. The Laboratory Assistant will report to the Department Head of Mechanical Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the instruction of manufacturing technologies for mechanical engineering and engineering and technology management students.
* Provide hands-on instruction in CNC machining and manual machining to students.
* Support student project manufacturing, offering guidance and technical expertise as needed.
* Manage and maintain the manufacturing infrastructure and equipment within the laboratory and shop environments.
* Collaborate with faculty and students to facilitate research and prototype development across engineering disciplines.
* Ensure proper safety protocols and procedures are followed within the laboratory.
* Maintain and organize tools, machinery, and equipment, ensuring everything is in working order.
* Assist in the development of new teaching materials and resources related to advanced manufacturing processes.
* Provide technical support to faculty and students as they engage with complex manufacturing tasks.

Qualifications
High School diploma, G.E.D., or possess at least one current relevant industry certification, such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT SB101, SB102, SB103, SB201, SB202, 1A or 1B or other comparable industry certifications as required.
Possess a valid driver's license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm's auto insurability requirements.

SUMMARY
Performs routine laboratory analysis of pressurized petroleum crude oil and natural gas in a PVT (Pressure, Volume, Temperature) laboratory environment. Conducts all aspects of PVT lab work under close supervision, including sample QC, pressurized transfers, saturation pressure measurements, flash separations, data reporting, and others, and assists coworkers in the same.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs all aspects of PVT studies such as recombination, PV relations, differential liberations, constant volume depletions, viscosity measurement, and others.
Uses basic hand tools properly and safely to make connections to valves and laboratory equipment and works safely and effectively with pressurized petroleum reservoir fluids.
Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.
Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets, perform basic data calculations using calculators and computers, and make accurate entries into the laboratory information management system.
Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. Performs equipment maintenance without assistance, performs equipment calibration and repair.
Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
