We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member to join the successful, dynamic and student-oriented medical laboratory sciences program. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Tenure or non-tenure track is available, depending on academic qualifications. Position reports to the medical laboratory sciences program director. The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The program offers a full- or part-time day program with one cohort of up to 30 students beginning each fall semester. The full-time track requires 17 months to complete. The part-time track allows students a maximum of five semesters to complete the program. The program also offers an MLT-to-MLS distance track that is designed for medical laboratory technicians (MLTs). Upon completion of the full-time, part-time, or MLT-to-MLS track, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is awarded. UAMS is Arkansas' only academic health center with seven institutes including the Reynolds Institute on Aging, Stephens Spine Institute, Jones Eye Institute, Myeloma Institute for Research & Therapy, Psychiatric Research Institute, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and Translational Research Institute. The university has five colleges including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions (CHP) as well as a Graduate School of biomedical sciences. The College of Health Professions which houses the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program also has 15 other programs with the potential for innovative interprofessional opportunities. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in science, education, health-related field, management, or equivalent from an accredited institution. (Candidates possessing a bachelor's degree will be expected to attain a master's degree in education or a health-related discipline.) * Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). * A minimum of 3 years' experience performing high-complexity testing as a generalist with experience in all areas of the lab. * Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, ability to identify and solve problems. * Ability to travel frequently to clinical sites and recruitment events to meet with potential students and current MLS students.     The FSQA Micro Laboratory Supervisor will manage the Microbiology, Quantitative, and Raw Material Laboratories. The supervisor will manage the laboratory technicians and verify test data. The supervisor will be responsible for developing and maintaining test standard operation procedures and laboratory audits. They will ensure that their team follows proper protocols, performing quality/micro tests, and producing accurate and reliable results. They are responsible for training new hires and updating staff on best practices in their field including new techniques or technologies that can improve testing accuracy or efficiency. They will develop and maintain laboratory KPIs maintain laboratory instrumentation. The Supervisor will report to the Director of FSQA & Regulatory Compliance. Principal Job Functions: Establish safety guidelines and policies to prevent accidents and injuries in the laboratory. Providing training to new and current technicians. Ensure that all laboratory instrumentation is properly maintained and calibrated. Evaluate the performance of technicians and provide regular feedback to ensure optimal performance. Perform inspections and audits of the laboratories to ensure GLP are followed. Stay current on new laboratory standards and approved test methods. Assure all products meet specification requirements and follow FSMA and Global Food Safety guidelines to ensure the finished product meets food safety and quality requirements. Ensure test methods and records are accurate. Maintain inventory of laboratory suppliers. Maintain the laboratory management system and communicate test results FSQA management. Identify and segregate nonconforming goods for proper disposition and notify QA Supervisor, manager, and director of FSQA. Conduct relevant performance testing criteria for each instrument. Assist with the investigation of customer complaints and quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data. Ensure general daily laboratory housekeeping provides a quality/safe working environment. Collect, organize, and set up product samples for sensory evaluation. Follow all policies, procedures, standards, safety, and GMP/GLP requirements. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed and performing other duties as requested by management. Will be an active member of the food safety team. Develop standards compliant to ISO 17025 requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in microbiology, chemistry, biology, or related field. 2-5 years' experience in a laboratory setting. 2-5 years' experience in a leadership role. Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Office and Office-based database systems. Ability to understand department documents Ability to display sound logic and attention to details. Ability to communicate comfortably and work with co-workers in a team environment. Ability to follow a schedule, as well as verbal and written instructions. Read and speak English. Masters degree in microbiology, chemistry, biology or related field preferred Experience in food manufacturing preferred ISO 17025 and GLP standards experience preferred Experience with 3 rd party certifying bodies preferred Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
