Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Lab Assistant collects blood and other laboratory specimens, log specimens, prepares the samples for testing and analyzes the specimens that require CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing as requested following adequate documented training. Must have one of the following certifications: CLA/MLA and/or MLT or Phlebotomy or MA certificate with blood draw experience. Additionally a high school diploma/GED is required. SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT * Work Schedule: This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day. * In this internship position, you cwill be working primarily in a combined Office and Laboratory environment, where you will conduct sample preparation, analysis, and reporting. However, the role also requires periodic visits to industrial areas for sample collection and area inspection. . * You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from your worksite for the summer. * Throughout the duration of your internship, you may be required to travel for site tours, shadow experiences, or intern events. There is a current opportunity for a technical position of Laboratory Technician II in the Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL) with primary duties in the molecular section and secondary duties in serology and bacteriology sections. Responsibilities * Perform PCR-based assays on samples of animal origin. * Develop or transfer PCR-based assays to detect animal pathogens. * Perform serologic and microbiologic tests on animal-origin samples. * Participate in the laboratory's quality system, including completion of necessary proficiency tests.
