The Pontotoc Ridge-Flatwoods Branch Experiment Station is located in Pontotoc, MS. The Pontotoc Branch is 1 of 6 Clean Plant Centers in the United States as part of the National Clean Plant Network (nationalcleanplantnetwork.org). This 640-acre research facility is a premier information source for the Mississippi sweetpotato industry and contributes research results throughout the world. Resources include office and staff, four greenhouses, wet/dry labs, and 640 acres of land resources. The Pontotoc Branch experiment station is located near the main sweetpotato production area in Mississippi and is in constant communication with innovative growers and other scientist across the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specifically, the incumbent is expected to:
1. Perform DNA and RNA extractions from plant tissue for use in virus detection assays.
2. Conduct quantitative PCR (qPCR) and other molecular assays for the identification and
quantification of sweetpotato viruses.
3. Assist in the development, optimization, and validation of diagnostic tools.
4. Maintain and propagate sweetpotato tissue culture under aseptic conditions.
5. Record, organize, and analyze experimental data with precision.
6. Maintain and operate laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with regulatory
and biosafety standards.
7. Support the preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or related field.

Master of Science (MS) degree in Molecular Biology or related science, experience in plant molecular diagnostics, experience with additional molecular methods (RT-PCR, isothermal amplification, sequencing), experience analyzing data and preparing manuscripts.

About the Team: The Forensic Toxicology laboratory in Southaven provides forensic drug testing services across the world. We continuously expand our testing menu to include synthetic drugs of abuse and designer specialty drugs. Testing is done through manual and semi-automated systems that are analyzed on a variety of instruments and software processing platforms. Intern duties will be at the lab assistant level, including both hands-on and automated processes, and support the laboratory technologists who have the industry required educational credentials.
Internship Assignment Summary:
Our Intern will work within our team and develop novel procedures for analysis of drugs of abuse. Our Intern will also engage in professional development workshops to enhance your business acumen and professional presence. An intern will be learning about lab processes in an industry-leading toxicology laboratory.

Laboratory assistant job in Southaven, MS
Responsible for dispatch and/or transport of blood and other specimens. Assists the laboratory staff with clerical and technical tasks indirectly related to the delivery of quality patient care, for the purpose of diagnostic testing. May perform CLIA waived laboratory testing. Performs routine duties in the lab. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Adhere to all specimen collection and preservation requirements, media requirements and storage.
Demonstrates proficiency in receiving specimens in the lab.
Follow accreditation standards, regulatory agency requirements and institutional policies.
Accurate and complete patient identification requirements, using at least three (3) unique patient identifiers.
Demonstrate proficiency in recording and retrieving laboratory data.
Timely distribution of samples.
Proficiency in specimen tracking.
Proficiency in reference lab specimen requirements, receiving and processing.
Proficiency in loading and unloading of blood culture bottles and performing CLIA waived tests.
Assists customers, including answering phones and responding to customer inquiries
Cleans and maintains laboratory supplies and work area
Assists with training and educating new employees and students
Completes assigned goals.

Minimum: Certification/Degree in the following areas which include, but are not limited to medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological or equivalent years of experience and education.
