Role Description
Responsible for using clinical history and other patient information in arriving at the proper diagnosis for each cytologic specimen
Examine cytology specimens for the presence of abnormal cellular changes and pathogens
Sign out all negative gynecologic cases
Report other cytologic findings, such as the presence of microorganisms endocervical component
Evaluate and mark GYN (reactive and reparative, abnormal, questionable or negative)
Submit reactive and reparative, abnormal and questionable GYN cases to a pathologist for final evaluation
Record the results of each GYN slide read on the appropriate form/systems/etc. used in the laboratory, in a legible manner
Submit daily workload of negative GYN cases for a minimum of 10% quality control review (including random high-risk cases) by a supervisory qualified cytotechnologist.
Maintain appropriate records
Maintain compliance with workload limits
Maintain microscope in excellent working condition
Participate in continuing education in areas relating to Cytology
Qualifications
Proficiency in Laboratory Skills, including specimen preparation and cellular sample analysis
Strong knowledge of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Experience in implementing and maintaining Quality Control standards
Certification as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify cellular abnormalities

Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
Requirements:
Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meets local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
Histology and/or ASCP certifications are preferred
Previous experience in histology is preferred but not required
Previous histology experience is required without an Associate's degree
Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus
Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
Ability to accurately read all labels and documents

Sort and organize specimens by department or test type, ensuring correct prioritization and handling.
Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, centrifuging, labeling, and distributing to appropriate lab departments.
Communicate promptly with laboratory staff and user experience team regarding discrepancies, missing information, or urgent specimens.
Maintain accurate documentation of all received and processed samples.

You Have:

Refill all the lab suppliers - paper towel, gloves
Maintain and clean the fume hoods, dissolution baths, sonicators, water bath and other instruments
Cleaning the glassware
Maintain equipment in good order and in compliance with SOPs
Keep the work area clean and organized e.g., immediately clean up spills, dispose of waste according to
laboratory procedures, remove expired reagents and chemicals
Stage samples and work packages for release into the laboratory for testing
Maintain clean and stocked workstations ensuring spills are immediately cleaned; hazardous waste
disposal according to laboratory procedures, glassware is appropriately handled, and lab solutions are
replaced.
Maintain good housekeeping, schedule and monitor housekeeping activities
Follow pre-established laboratory cleaning schedules

What You Will Do: The IVF Lab Assistant works collaboratively with the laboratory team. Your primary responsibilities will include maintaining accurate records, ensuring quality control and safety protocols compliance, preparing and handling laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing basic laboratory procedures. The Lab Assistant reports directly to the IVF Lab Supervisor.
Assemble, organize, and file patient charts, freeze cards, FDA paperwork, and consent forms; conduct quality assurance/control of patient charts according to CAP guidelines.
Monitor lab emails, phones, and EMR, to answer questions, address requests, direct to appropriate resource, and follow-up through completion.
Generate daily surgery schedule for OR and IVF Lab; coordinate with the Doctor(s) and IVF staffs' schedule.
Maintain all active ART patients in the IVF portal, verify accuracy of patient data, demographics, procedures, etc.
Coordinate daily ART procedures (egg retrievals, embryo transfers, male infertility procedures, egg warms, rebiopsy, non-invasive CCS, and EEB banking warm for culture); ensure patients and IVF staff are informed.
Assign incubator location for IVF Lab patients, enter patient information in Electronic Witnessing system, and affix labels on charts, incubators, media setup, and patient wristband.
Scan completed IVF/FET lab forms into patient EMR for Doctor/Nurse reference and ensure IVF/FET cycles are sent to business office and genetics.
Collect and input on-going SART data, audit charts for required information, transfer SART data from EMR into current database, and coordinate SART reporting to meet CDC requirements.
Interpret ART notes to enter and place orders in IVF Laboratory information system (LIS) and ensure Genetics' CCS results are recorded in LIS.
Assist cryopreservation specialist with embryo scheduling, physical cyro-inventory, and embryo shipment documentation.
Maintain/update Cryoinventory database, Transfer database, and Harvest database; assist with data manipulation and presentation as needed.
Obtain/maintain Mayo Clinic's “Shipping and Receiving Hazardous Materials” certification.
Serve as a witness to the Embryologist during CCS processing, vitrification, and warming.
Review disposition and dispose of embryo(s)/oocytes and maintain accurate records.
Understand/assess potential domestic violence and child abuse and know reporting responsibilities; will report concerns to IVF Laboratory Supervisor or Medical Director.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare laboratory specimens for various analysis and testing
Research, troubleshoot and resolve customer and specimen problems
Send test requests to proper location and release test results
Assist clients with any specimen related requests or inquires
Process specimens to be sent out to additional facilities
Provide support to various areas of the laboratory
Perform sample sorting, racking and retrieving
Prepare record logs in a timely and efficient manner
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred
Comfortability with handling biological specimens
Ability to accurately identify specimens
Basic computer and data entry skills
Strong communication skills; written and verbal
Ability to work independently or within a team environment
Well organized and a high level of attention to detail
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Must pass a standardized color blindness test

The Lab Technician I will prepare samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
Job Functions
* After appropriate training independently prepare samples for analysis according to SGS' analytical SOPs using basic instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
* Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of prep instruments/equipment
* May assist with validation and MDL studies.
* Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
* Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
* Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
* Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
* High school diploma (Required)
* 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or prior experience working with one's hands (Required)
* Associates Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Preferred)
* 1-2 years of years' relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)
* Language Skills: English (Required)
* Mathematical Skills: Basic (Required)
* Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Basic (Required)
* Computer Skills: Basic (Required)
* Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
