This position will play a key role in achieving the mission of the lab. We aim to discover cellular and molecular mechanisms of mitochondria-associated neurological diseases. To do this, we implement an experimental pipeline that leverages the combined power of clinical data, genomics analysis, and studies using Drosophila models and patient-derived stem cell models. Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team! The Medical Lab Technician works as a generalist in all areas of the laboratory which include but not limited to, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and specimen processing. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform phlebotomy when required. Collects and processes laboratory specimens as ordered by clinic provider staff Performs Quality Control (QC) procedures on laboratory equipment according to clinic and manufacturer standards, policies and procedures Logs incoming and outgoing lab results; maintains and retains records as required Evaluates post analytical tests results, distributes test results appropriately and reports test results to medical staff as required Assists in maintenance of lab supplies to ensure adequate supply is available. Notifies lab director of low stock. Processes orders of lab supplies on a monthly basis Performs maintenance on instruments as required by manufacturer Performs required quarterly proficiency testing Performs duties of laboratory director when absent The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is a non-profit organization and not federal employment. Part-time Description Under general supervision, the MLT is responsible for performing routine clinical laboratory tests in molecular lab testing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of results to support patient care. The role includes specimen processing, instrument operation/calibration, quality control, and data entry/reporting. Duties Receive, label, store and prepare patient specimens for analysis. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment. Perform daily quality control (QC) and participate in quality assurance (QA) programs. Enter and verify test orders/results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Interpret QC data, reject unacceptable specimens, alert supervisors/clinicians to critical values or unusual results. Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the laboratory environment; follow biosafety, infection control, chemical safety and other applicable safety regulations. Communicate effectively with team members, clinicians and other staff; may assist in training junior staff or students. Work Environment & Schedule Most work is in a clinical laboratory environment with bio-hazardous materials, requiring protective equipment and adherence to safety standards. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent recognized program. Strong computer skills and familiarity with LIS/data entry systems. Excellent attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, maintain record accuracy, and use lab equipment safely and effectively. Preferred Qualifications One or more years of clinical laboratory experience. Certification by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification - ASCP) Familiarity with molecular lab testing.
