Preferred Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491. Certifications: Registered with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire. This position works under the direction of the supervisor and follows standard laboratory procedures and policies. Performs Proficiency Testing in a timely manner and submits results to Supervisors. Conducts validation testing for new clinical assays. Tracks, enters, and monitors patient files using the Laboratory Information System. Maintains laboratory equipment, including completing logs and maintenance, i.e. clean, sterilize, maintain, and shut down laboratory equipment, accessories, and instruments used in research experiments, daily and weekly as required. Follow the laboratory's proce dures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that dem onstrate that proficiency testing sam ples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and pro cedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's estab lished policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable lev els of performance. Aquarium maintenance of 7 tanks includes fresh and saltwater fish, plants, and invertebrate species; develops, implements, and provides daily care such as feeding; conducts routine water changes; prepares and maintains correct salinity of water; monitors water chemistry; removes algae; keeps equipment like pumps, skimmers and lights in working order. The Campus Wildlife Demonstration Gardens are used by multiple SCC Biology courses and include over 100 Sonoran Desert plant species, ponds (including endangered species), and rainwater harvesting and raised plant beds that are used to grow food for the Center's animals. Ensures that plants receive sufficient water and communicates with Facilities to fix problems with drip lines; removes weeds; prunes plants away from paths. Pond maintenance includes several ponds containing endangered fish populations, educational signage, and endangered plants; removes algae and unwanted species; prunes and monitors surrounding vegetation, monitors water chemistry and equipment of ponds; maintains cleanliness of areas surrounding ponds. 10% - Maintains records and database information including visitor counts, volunteer hours, and State and Federal permit requirements; develops and maintains standard operating procedures; develops and maintains educational signage; ensures compliance with animal handling and other safety procedures; reviews inventory needs and purchases equipment and supplies; maintains purchase records. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises full-time regular staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution, four years of directly related full-time experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities including two years of lead work or senior level experience. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
