Follows the course clinical performance guidelines to assess student performance. c. Monitors participant and implement emergency protocols, if necessary. Performs phlebotomy functions and non-technical duties in areas including the hospital laboratory, outpatient and off-site services Responsibilities 1. Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, and heel stick) according to established procedure. a. Performs venipuncture using correct technique and with minimal discomfort to the patient. b. Performs finger stick procedures with correct technique and when unable to obtain specimen by venipuncture. c. Performs heel stick on babies with correct technique. 2. Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes. a. Identifies patient by checking name and date of birth (and hospital medical record number for blood bank specimens) on patient armband. b. Labels all specimen tubes following established procedure: Date and time of draw and phlebotomist initials. 3. Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing : a. Prioritizes STAT requests. Draws STATs within 10-15 minutes of request. b. Draws severe trauma and/or disaster patients immediately. c. Ensures that STATs are transported to lab on a priority bases immediately for serious cases: Trauma, disaster; within 15 minutes of draw for other STATs. Hourly for routines. 4. Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions. a. Registers patients in system, completing all required fields with correct information. b. Verifies all information for accuracy. c. Performs order entry with no errors. d. Generates collection lists, NCC list and can add on or cancel tests. 5. Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload 6. Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure an orderly work flow. a. Assists co-workers with blood-drawing procedures on morning rounds before returning to phlebotomy station. b. Informs floors of missed patients or patients not drawn for any reason at time of attempt. c. Informs Supervisor of problems in obtaining specimens for any reason. 7. Under supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at the hospital in the performance of phlebotomy duties. a. Works with new employees to assist in training of departmental procedures. b. Acts as a resource to new employees. 8. Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures. 9. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. a. Job Description TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Upon specimen arrival, properly marks the location of testing for each ordered test on the accompanying requisition. Ensures that the correct specimen is collected for each test ordered, and that the tube types submitted are written in the left margin of the requisition. Ensures that the patient's full name, date/time of collection, and phlebotomist' number are filled in on the requisition, and that the specimen bar codes (with appropriate letter prefix) are placed on all patient specimens. Responsible for informing a facility, and filling out appropriate paperwork, if a redraw is needed due to: PT & PTT that are QNS; missing or incorrectly spelled name on requisition or specimen; mislabeled accession number and/or name; specimen not received Taking a redraw order from a CLS if any specimen is unsuitable for the test ordered, due to the integrity, quantity and/or suitability of the specimen for the lab test required. Ensures that all patient requisitions are scanned into the Filebound program. Properly centrifuges all appropriate specimens for correct times to insure adequate serum or plasma for required testing. Routes in-house specimens to correct lab benches for testing. Routes reference lab specimens, with a copy of the requisition, to the reference lab desk for inclusion into the TRK Sendout Manifest for the Burbank lab. Prepares reference lab coolers correctly, with proper paperwork, and according to federal guidelines for “Biological Substances - Category B.” Prepares a copy of the DL requisition for any local reference lab with the DL account number, and tests to be done by this lab clearly marked. Whether a cooler is sent to the airport or a courier must be sent to a local reference lab, Dispatch must be notified for the transfer. Regularly reviews in-house testing areas for completed specimens so they can electronically store them for any future add-on tests or repeats. Proper Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times to protect the processor from any infectious material. The Metallurgy Clerk supports the metallurgical and materials engineering team by performing administrative, data-entry, document control, and test-report coordination tasks related to metal materials used in aerospace components. This role ensures accurate tracking of material certifications, test results, and quality documentation to maintain compliance with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP). Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Maintain and organize metallurgical test reports, material certificates (MTRs), heat-treat records, and supplier documentation. Update and manage databases for material properties, test results, and conformance reports. Ensure all documents comply with aerospace standards and internal quality procedures. Assist in preparing documentation packages for customer audits, regulatory audits, and internal reviews. Enter metallurgical test data (hardness, tensile, chemical composition, microstructure evaluations, etc.) into quality systems or ERP/MRP software. Ensures that all patient requisitions are scanned into the Filebound program. Properly centrifuges all appropriate specimens for correct times to insure adequate serum or plasma for required testing. Routes in-house specimens to correct lab benches for testing. Routes reference lab specimens, with a copy of the requisition, to the reference lab desk for inclusion into the TRK Sendout Manifest for the Burbank lab. Prepares reference lab coolers correctly, with proper paperwork, and according to federal guidelines for “Biological Substances - Category B.” Prepares a copy of the DL requisition for any local reference lab with the DL account number, and tests to be done by this lab clearly marked. Whether a cooler is sent to the airport or a courier must be sent to a local reference lab, Dispatch must be notified for the transfer. Regularly reviews in-house testing areas for completed specimens so they can electronically store them for any future add-on tests or repeats. Qualifications Minimum Education: High School Graduate Minimum Experience: 2 Years Acute Hospital Experience Required Certification/Registration: CPR, Phlebotomy
