About the Role - The Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) will be responsible for supporting Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Lab Management in the daily operations of Octave's Clinical Lab. Primary duties will consist of sample receipt and accessioning into LIMS, data entry, customer service activities, prepping blood samples for analysis, performing maintenance on equipment, general laboratory and administrative tasks and complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements. The work requires keeping meticulous and organized records, excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multitask and be flexible with schedules, and working both independently and in a team environment to deliver high quality results in the most efficient manner.
Schedule: This position will follows a Tuesday-Saturday work week to align with laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
Receiving and accessioning samples.
Data entry and quality check of patient and sample information in the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Prepare and aliquot samples for testing.
Archiving and retrieving samples.
Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment in the laboratory for performance of duties.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Post-accessioning quality checks of data entry and received documents.
Performing a variety of laboratory and administrative tasks to support the clinical laboratory staff in the CAP Accredited Octave Bioscience laboratory.
Performing laboratory duties under direct and constant supervision of a licensed CLS or the General Supervisor and/or designee, who provides specific instruction regarding how tasks are to be completed and defines the steps to be performed.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks and setting up consumables in preparation for laboratory testing.
Create sample batches, print labels and label tubes and plates.
Participate in materials management activities including inventory tracking, ordering, receiving, unpacking, documentation and labeling of consumables and reagents, and stocking work areas.
Following established protocols and identifying issues that may affect assigned duties, correcting problems or escalating them as needed to a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Supervisors, or the Lab Director.
Comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing clinical laboratory operations including maintaining confidentiality of personal health information (PHI).
Write and revise standard operating procedures, as needed.
Work closely with the CLS's and Accessioning Teams and Reagent Manufacturing team to provide consistent and ongoing support to the entire service department.
Identify process improvement opportunities and report to laboratory management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science, or related field preferred. Laboratory Experience: 2 years (Preferred) including but not limited to customer service, specimen processing, and laboratory assisting in a hospital or reference laboratory setting. Experience with accurate data entry of sensitive information in a mid to high throughput setting. Dedicated to making a difference. We are seeking a Lab Chemistry Technician who is passionate about hands-on experimentation and eager to support the creation of advanced materials for next generation humanoid robots. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys preparing materials with precision, running characterization tests, executing polymer and other organic synthesis reactions, and working closely with senior scientists in a fast paced laboratory environment.
You will work directly under the supervision of the Polymer Chemist and the Materials Science Lead, supporting the development of elastomers, coatings, adhesives, textiles and multilayer material systems that enable future robot architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare polymer formulations, elastomers, textiles and composite samples, and perform hands-on laboratory experiments including the synthesis and modification of polymers under senior scientist supervision.
Operate laboratory equipment for mixing, curing, casting, coating, laminating, and other processing of soft material systems.
Execute and improve synthesis workflows using glass and stainless reactors, feed pumps, temperature controllers, nitrogen purging systems, and filtration equipment, following SOPs for start up, shut down, and cleaning.
Conduct material characterization such as tensile testing, hardness measurements, rheology, thermal analysis, adhesion testing, and visual inspection.
Maintain meticulous laboratory records, document procedures and results, and contribute to technical reports when required.
Communicate results, observations, and interpretations clearly and proactively to supervising scientists.
Maintain an up to date SDS database and ensure proper labeling, handling, storage, and inventory management of chemicals and materials.
Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, follow established safety procedures, and contribute to ongoing improvements in lab safety practices and workflows.
Uphold strict confidentiality and maintain awareness of intellectual property responsibilities.
Assist in building small scale prototypes, participate in pilot processing trials, and support rapid iteration across multiple experiments.
Help maintain an organized laboratory environment that supports efficient workflow, safety compliance, and reliable daily operations.
Work effectively within a diverse team, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and steady progress toward objectives and milestones.
Job requirements
Required Qualifications
At least a two year degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, materials science, or a related field.
Scientific knowledge and the ability to understand and carry out standard laboratory methods with accuracy and care.
Experience performing a wide range of research experiments and tests, including setup and operation of laboratory apparatus and equipment.
Ability to operate synthesis and processing equipment including glass and stainless reactors, feed pumps, temperature controllers, nitrogen purging systems, and filtration setups.
Hands on experience preparing samples, handling chemicals, and working with laboratory tools in a safe and organized manner.
Familiarity with mixing, curing, casting, coating, or testing of polymers, elastomers, or composite materials is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures and documentation standards.
Comfort working with scientists, engineers, and cross functional teams in a fast moving research environment.
Eagerness to learn new techniques, operate new equipment, and support diverse experiments.
Strong organizational skills, reliability, and clear communication.

The Center of Technology (CoTe) within RED is composed of centralized laboratories that provide expert advice, service, training and open access to state-of-the-art flow cytometry, lab automation, sequencing and mass spectrometry technologies, as well as the procurement of rare biospecimens.We aspire to accelerate early research programs, generate breakthrough data, influence the course of clinical development, and enable scientific creativity across all of RED.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
The position will involve working with the Lead Scientist and Research Associates in the Cytometry Core within the Center of Technology.
Skills the Intern, Cytometry Core will gain:
* Knowledge of how flow cytometry, high content imaging and cell sorting are used in a biotechnology environment to support research, bioanalysis, and clinical work
* Knowledge in how to operate a flow cytometer, high content imager and cell sorter
* Training in a typical flow cytometry assay including complex options for data analysis
* Experience in a Shared Resource Laboratory (SRL or Core Lab) touching many parts of the drug discovery process
Position is designed to function onsite only; lab time will be required 5 days a week.
Required Coursework:
* Molecular Biology and Molecular Biology Laboratory or equivalent courses
* Cell Biology or Molecular Immunology or equivalent courses
