Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
Package specimens for transport
Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual department trainings
Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and possess a valid driver's license issued in the state of residence.

About the Opportunity
The City of Ventura is hiring a Laboratory Assistant to support the Ventura Water laboratory operations through hands-on environmental sampling and routine laboratory analysis. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment by helping ensure the quality of potable water, wastewater, stormwater, and industrial waste systems.
The Laboratory Assistant performs essential field and lab-based work, supporting analytical testing, data collection, and equipment maintenance in a collaborative, safety-focused setting. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with laboratory experience interested in working in a municipal water and wastewater laboratory.
Incumbents may be required to work weekends and holidays as operational needs require.
What You'll Do
In this position, you will perform a variety of laboratory and field support duties, including:
* Collecting water and environmental samples from treatment plants, water distribution systems, industrial waste sites, and receiving water
* Performing routine chemical and physical analyses, including solids, pH, alkalinity, COD, BOD, and chlorine residual testing
* Operating laboratory and field equipment such as pH and turbidity meters, samplers, and analytical balances
* Maintaining accurate records of sampling activities, analytical procedures, and test results, including data entry
* Cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment and work areas
* Monitoring and maintaining laboratory supply inventory
* Following established safety procedures when working with chemicals, raw sewage, and laboratory equipment
* Preparing and coordinating the shipment or pickup of samples for contract laboratories, ensuring accurate and complete chain-of-custody documentation.
The Ideal Candidate - Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
* Have experience supporting laboratory operations through environmental sampling and routine chemical or physical analysis
* Possess a strong understanding of standard water and environmental sampling and analysis procedures
* Be comfortable working in both laboratory and field environments, including exposure to wastewater and chemicals
* Demonstrate the ability to follow oral and written technical instructions accurately
* Maintain organized and accurate records and perform basic mathematical calculations
* Communicate effectively with coworkers and the public, including industrial users
* Be detail-oriented and dependable, and committed to safety and accuracy
* Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Minimum Qualifications - Required
Requires a combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of related laboratory experience. College level course work in a laboratory science is highly desirable.
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.

Communicate production issues and actively develop solutions. Act as SME to identify risk, and improve processes.
Create and revise technical procedures, SOPs, forms and similar as needed. Process document updates within PLM systems (AGILE) for revisions, and non-conformance reporting.
Represent Histology department in various cross-functional initiatives.
Maintain training records
Participate in technology validation and audit support when required.

Performs phlebotomy and processing of specimens to be sent to outside laboratory.
Injects patients with medications after verification by a provider, to the extent permitted by law.
Performs finger sticks and TB skin tests.
Measures and describes skin test reaction in Electronic Health Record system (EHR) and reports to provider any reactions exceeding thresholds.
Performs CLIA waived In-House tests ordered by providers.
Maintains quality control of all In-House laboratory tests.
Operates and maintains standard laboratory equipment (e.g., DCA, HemoCue, INRatio2, Autoclave, and Glucometer).
Reviews and processes orders from EHR for laboratory testing of patients.
Records In-House test results in Electronic Health Record system.
Reviews and updates all Immediate Follow Ups for Pap tests in case management software daily.

Assists provider staff in addressing abnormal laboratory results by contacting patients and getting them a walk-in or same day appointment to discuss results with the provider.
Provides ABN forms to Medicare only patients before doing any laboratory procedures.
Works with QI and Compliance Manager to address CoCasa reports or any other laboratory reports.
Maintains a safe environment in the laboratory.
Keeps work area clean and in an orderly manner.
Checks email upon arrival every morning and throughout the day to keep himself/herself informed of day to day functions and important communications with administration and clinic staff.
May need to cover at other sites if needed.

Required Qualifications:
+ Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
+ Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I License Or
+ Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician II License
+ California Fire and Life Safety Card - National Organization within 30 days of hire
+ Phlebotomy experience.
+ 2 years of experience in the health care field in related work.

Lab Clinical Tech - Clinical Laboratory Services
St. John's Regional Medical Center
We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Clinical Tech. As a Lab Clinical Tech you will actively participate as a team member in the systems, functions and activities of the unit/department. Other duties associated with clinical lab functions are clerical in nature, including, but not limited to such acts as patient registration, telephone communication, filing, sorting, distribution, typing, data entry and frequent use of laboratory computer system(s) to process specimens. Verifies eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, PCP approval, and billing requirements as appropriate. May work out of various patient service centers. Use of personal vehicles may be required.
Carries out correct procedure for blood testing. (Drawing labeling and transporting to Laboratory).
Uses patients bar-coded label or requisition slip and patients armband to correctly identify patients first and last name as well as MR and or Visit # date of birth and mothers name on newborns to insure accurate patient identification.
Prioritizes STAT TIMED and ROUTINE draws and transports accordingly to meet turnaround times.
Responds to all requests and pages in a timely manner consistent with laboratory policies.
Follows all OSHA and CAP requirements in performance of job.
Maintains the appropriate stock level of supplies in work area and for procedures before leaving end of shift.
Job Requirements
Six (6) months recent hospital experience as a Clinical Technician / Phlebotomist required.
Must have a High School education
Successful completion of the State of California approved Phlebotomy Training Program
Phlebotomy License required. (CT Phlebot Lic)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support required. (AHA BLS)
Special Skills:
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to be an effective team member.
Basic knowledge of testing procedures and medical terminology.
This position is represented by SEIU and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
