    Title Cytogenetics Technologist Days - Full Time Southlake Campus / Career Interest: The Cytogenetic Technologist is able to work independently setting up and processing appropriate specimens submitted for cytogenetic analysis, performing analysis, preparing karyograms and describing the results using correct ISCN nomenclature for karyotypes. These responsibilities include both conventional cytogenetic and FISH studies as assigned. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Accurately analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy. Calibrates, maintains, operates, troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation. Completes continuing education and submits appropriate documentation where applicable to maintain certification. Completes paperwork accurately and submits appropriately. Follows chain of command and brings issues to the attention of the supervisor, Assistant Director or Medical Director. Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable. Maintains an adequate inventory of all chemicals and supplies. Accurately prepares, labels, stores and disposes of reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Performs validation testing that is needed to implement new tests in the laboratory and monitors normal ranges as appropriate. Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests related to the patient's diagnosis and to previous studies as appropriate, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values. Initiates corrective action when indicated. Uses and wears PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as necessary to perform job duties safely and minimize risk. Utilizes lab-defined database and software programs appropriately to document all phases of testing in the laboratory. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. About the role: We are seeking a full time Laboratory Technician who will be responsible for various laboratory testing including Titrations, ICP analysis, and viscosity testing. This individual will be responsible for following all safety and quality guidelines while maintaining a satisfactory production level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. About you: Ensure that all tasks are performed within time restraints and according to relevant quality and safety policies and procedures. Use results from test method(s) in calculations to further characterize the data (i.e. Calculated Cetane Index, Viscosity Index, etc.). Prepare and/or aliquot samples as part of a sample preparation step for all required tests. When applicable load samples on automated instrumentation that has been validated following method quality requirements. Perform routine daily and/or weekly verification(s) and/or calibration(s) on equipment and instrumentation following method quality requirements. Some methods will require a minimum Level 3 or 4 based on complexity and quality risk level. Perform analysis on samples through direct testing (i.e. wet chemistry). The minimum level required to perform some methods will vary depending on complexity of the method, safety risk level, and quality risk level. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and/or instrumentation as required by the method. The minimum level required to perform preventative maintenance on some equipment and/or instrumentation will vary depending on the complexity of the task, safety risk level and quality risk level. Perform calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations. Perform sample preparation for multiple testing requirements. Perform housekeeping duties as required. This includes assisting with storage and disposal of client samples. Monitor inventory levels for supplies and reagents required for test methods. Prepare and maintain standards and reagents. Some standards will require a minimum Level 2 depending on the complexity and quality risk. Generate, accumulate, handle, work near, transport, and dispose of hazardous wastes. Collect, store, and label any hazardous waste generated in compliance with the ALS policy. Contribute to sample receival process including opening packages, sorting mail and data entry. Participate in shift hand overs to ensure smooth transition. Identify continuous improvement activities for the site. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: High school diploma/GED is required. Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or another applicable applied science (Equivalent 5 years' experience) is preferred. 5+ years of experience with instrumentation used for analysis. Quality assurance/control experience with ISO 17025 or other quality standards associated with laboratory protocols. Laboratory experience is preferred. Physical Demands: The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working. Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers. Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware. Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment. Position Duties & Responsibilities • Performs routine analytical testing on teams that work a variety of shifts that include working weekends and holidays. Requests additional work to increase team productivity. • Prepares and analyzes numerous types of samples by a variety of physical and chemical analytical techniques using sophisticated analytical equipment. The instrumentation includes pH meters, densitometers, dissolved oxygen meters, conductivity meters, calorimeters, viscometers, rheometers, spectrophotometers, auto-titrators, ion chromatographs (IC), inductively coupled plasma spectrometers (ICP), laser particle size analyzers, gas chromatographs (GC), High Pressure Liquid Chromatographs (HPLC), titrators, densitometers, auto-claves, pipettors, platers, incubators, and ovens. • Performs various microbiological tests including tests to determine spore counts and microbiological contamination. • Understands and operates STARLiMS Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Waters Empower laboratory data acquisition system, and other instrument-specific computer systems. • Searches various databases for test methods, specifications, and standards to locate information required to complete analyses. Promptly and accurately records, calculates and reports analytical results. • Maintains appropriate records to meet internal requirements as well as, ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001. Completes various daily instrument calibrations and inspections. • Observes good safety and housekeeping practices. May serve as Safety Officer for the shift. • Maintains laboratory supplies, prepares solutions, cleans glassware, disposes of solid/liquid waste and other duties to help in the overall operations of the laboratory.
