Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory testing using both manual and automated techniques. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH performance standards, policies, and behaviors
Laboratory testing personnel responsibilities include:
Following the laboratory's pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of these tests
Maintaining records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
Adhering to the laboratory's quality assurance procedures, including documenting all:
Quality control activities including quality control testing and calibrations
Instrument and equipment verifications
Maintenance and preventative maintenance
Following the laboratory's policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established performance specifications
Identifying and documenting problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifying the supervisor, assistant director or director and documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
Ensures the accuracy and quality of all results from pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
Notifies and documents clinicians and patient units of all critical values and maintains the laboratory STAT turn around time requirements.
Participates in regulatory readiness for CAP, AABB, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission.
Maintains 12 Continuing Education credits per year.
Understands and participates in standard operating procedures, proficiency testing, inspection audits, quality program including reporting non-conformances.
Evaluates test results for abnormalities and confirms those results per department protocols where required.
Participates in validations, training, and competency assessments as required.
Responsible for inventory management of lot numbers, expiration dates, labeling, and QC requirement.
Completes all annual mandatory training, in-services, and ongoing education as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Section testing training and competency assessments are maintained by the section laboratory supervisor for all assigned disciplines

Generalists - performs Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry/Immunology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Blood Bank specialties

What You Will Do: The IVF Lab Assistant works collaboratively with the laboratory team. Your primary responsibilities will include maintaining accurate records, ensuring quality control and safety protocols compliance, preparing and handling laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing basic laboratory procedures. The Lab Assistant reports directly to the IVF Lab Supervisor.
Assemble, organize, and file patient charts, freeze cards, FDA paperwork, and consent forms; conduct quality assurance/control of patient charts according to CAP guidelines.
Monitor lab emails, phones, and EMR, to answer questions, address requests, direct to appropriate resource, and follow-up through completion.
Generate daily surgery schedule for OR and IVF Lab; coordinate with the Doctor(s) and IVF staffs' schedule.
Maintain all active ART patients in the IVF portal, verify accuracy of patient data, demographics, procedures, etc.
Coordinate daily ART procedures (egg retrievals, embryo transfers, male infertility procedures, egg warms, rebiopsy, non-invasive CCS, and EEB banking warm for culture); ensure patients and IVF staff are informed.
Assign incubator location for IVF Lab patients, enter patient information in Electronic Witnessing system, and affix labels on charts, incubators, media setup, and patient wristband.
Scan completed IVF/FET lab forms into patient EMR for Doctor/Nurse reference and ensure IVF/FET cycles are sent to business office and genetics.
Collect and input on-going SART data, audit charts for required information, transfer SART data from EMR into current database, and coordinate SART reporting to meet CDC requirements.
Interpret ART notes to enter and place orders in IVF Laboratory information system (LIS) and ensure Genetics' CCS results are recorded in LIS.
Assist cryopreservation specialist with embryo scheduling, physical cyro-inventory, and embryo shipment documentation.
Maintain/update Cryoinventory database, Transfer database, and Harvest database; assist with data manipulation and presentation as needed.
Obtain/maintain Mayo Clinic's “Shipping and Receiving Hazardous Materials” certification.
Serve as a witness to the Embryologist during CCS processing, vitrification, and warming.
Review disposition and dispose of embryo(s)/oocytes and maintain accurate records.
Understand/assess potential domestic violence and child abuse and know reporting responsibilities; will report concerns to IVF Laboratory Supervisor or Medical Director.

Act as leader of the hospital laboratory activities and as part of the overall strategy of the Professional Lab Services (PLS) team to service and grow our business through hospital partnerships.
Ensures Laboratory Supervisor(s) are effectively performing duties.
The Hospital Laboratory Manager is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all services provided by the departments under his/her supervision.
Ensures policies and practices meet all regulatory standards and requirements.
Responsibilities
Work as the manager for the Regional Laboratory hospital services and with the national PLS team to develop integration plans based on the structure of the lab management arrangement.
Participate in the identification, design, development and implementation of hospital laboratory management services. Participate in implementation plans, start up and ongoing management for both internal (regional business needs) and external customer (hospital client) contracting requirements.
Interfaces with internal and external resources to ensure successful and timely completion of the lab management arrangement and the ongoing contract success of operations in accordance with client and company needs.
Participates in training hospital management and/or staff and is responsible for evaluating the project effectiveness and outcome. Manager is a key player in performance of the project team and evaluates overall team performance.
Works with national PLS manager and leadership as well as the regional SLT to manage and execute implementation plan including directing staff resources (both internal and external), evaluating results, creating documentation of newly created processes and managing overall engagement.
Hospital Service Manager has direct line of responsibility for Client supervisors and staff at the client locations, to maintain relationships and communications with hospital client, sales, Professional Lab Services Team,
Regional operations and functional partners (procurement, logistics, etc.), throughout the duration of the contract.
Regional accountability for a successful and timely client contract launch and ongoing operations.
Provide regular and detailed project status to internal team members and client. Highlight issues, scope of services, with ongoing monthly and quarterly hospital reporting on productivity, quality, equipment and process flows.
Ensure that any contracted service where Client contracts a hospital (under lab management or a free-standing contract) to provide testing services for Client stat or off hours RRL coverage is delivered in a high quality and with all contract terms delivered as agreed on.
Ensure that any contracted service where hospital contracts with Client for reference testing, that samples are prepared for pick up on time;that any issues with testing performance identified by hospital providers is immediately shared with the Client laboratory to where the test was referred and collaborates to improve and resolution of those issues.
Manager is a key operations contact for Hospital clients that contract with Client for testing services to coordinate service level expectations. Coordinate and act as an operations liaison for regional management and scientific directors responses of Client leadership to ensure hospital client satisfaction as well as to foster and identify regional opportunities for deeper Hospital Lab Management services.
Lead or participate in internal meetings, client meetings or cross-functional meetings. Responsible for participating in development of project plans, meeting documentation, regional action item management, and any other regional deliverables.
Collaborates with supply chain/procurement to maintain adequate and efficient levels of inventory. Ability to utilize effective management, influencing skills both internally and externally to ensure a successful implementation of all services within scope.
Knowledge of department metrics goals and actual performance, coordinates department activity to achieve metric goals
Collaborates with Laboratory Director to establish and maintain laboratory budget
Invoicing, completing reclient for capital equipment, and other financial activities as required Manages labor productivity and cost per test
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Work Experience:
5 or more years managerial experience in the laboratory industry.
Preferred Work Experience:
Prior managerial hospital experience. Must demonstrate ability to lead or manage through supervisory or area lead responsibilities.
