Provides client support for physicians and staff as needed Major Responsibilities: Operates laboratory and hospital information system for entry and retrieval of patient demographic data and order entry. Works in partnership with Patient Registration department to ensure data is obtained and entered into system. Processes outpatient lab specimens, accurately orders tests and labels specimens for testing in the clinical lab. Retrieves patient data and results for clients and physicians. Operates remote printers and fax to deliver information as requested. Retrieves archived patient data from optical disk. Adheres to HIPAA standards at all times to ensure patient confidentiality. Provides client service with customer oriented focus for clients and physicians concerning clinical data. Calls stat results to clients and physicians. Documents client calls and callbacks in computer. Answers and transfers calls for Clinical Laboratory and Reference Laboratory. Utilizes appropriate login process for telephone call queue system. Enters appropriate information into client call database for add-on tests, recollects, and follow up issues. Uses computer system for interdepartmental email, to track specimens, utilize web based orders and retrieve results, and scan and index lab requisitions. Informs couriers of specimen pickups from clients. Assists with local specimen pickups when regular couriers are not available. Follows universal safety precaution standards and patient safety policies at all times. Provides support for all lab departments, retrieves information and assists as needed.     Department: 60901 Navicent Health Medical Center - Lab Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Days - Variable Pay Range $30.15 - $45.25 Performs laboratory analysis on received specimens, providing clinical information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Responsible for overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assigned technical duties. Major Responsibilities: Performs, reviews, and reports complex laboratory tests in accordance with prescribed procedures according to standards set by FDA, CAP, AABB, GDHR and The Joint Commission. Effectively processes workload in a timely manner, organizes workstation, operates, and maintains equipment in assigned area Correctly analyzes, performs maintenance, correctly troubleshoots all testing and QC problems following standard laboratory operating procedures. Knowledgeable of Laboratory Information System and computer downtime procedure. Consults with technical lead, clinical specialist, supervisor, manager, or pathologist, when necessary, on unusual or abnormal results. Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense. Assists in teaching students in the assigned areas as well as training and orientation of new employees. New employee training/ student teaching. Assists in specimen collection as necessary and carries out measures to ensure chemical and biohazardous safety. Submits supply requests for weekly and monthly orders as assigned. Helps maintain appropriate supply inventory/restocks workstation. Assists in special projects and other duties as assigned. Supports and maintains a positive work environment following lab and hospital procedures. Maintains confidentiality Communicates effectively with peers. Demonstrates principles of Operation Excellence when dealing with other departments Adapts a change and modifies work schedule or assignment as needed to benefit department Performs other duties as assigned. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB (AAB with 15yrs.experience), NCA, HHS certification or equivalent. If registry eligible all newly hired technical staff must pass an approved certification exam within twelve (12) months of placement in this occupational classification. Education Required: Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Baccalaureate degree from accredited college or university to include minimum of 30 quarter hours of lecture science, including at least 15 quarter hours of chemistry, 10 quarter hours of biology and 5 quarter hours of math. Experience Required: None required Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Works in a fast-paced clinical environment. Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads. Must be able to use visual acuity to see monitor screen, computer, and hard copy materials. Must be able to hear and verbally communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
