LabCorp is currently seeking a Hospital Test Reference Clerk (HTRC) to work onsite at a hospital client account. In this role you will provide exceptional customer service, perform skilled specimen processing and be the face of our company. In addition, you will be provided opportunities for continuous growth within the organization.
A Hospital Reference Test Clerk will receive specimens, accession, and process, per LabCorp specimen handling protocol. The HTRC will be a client's resource for information regarding test codes and specimen types. The HTRC will reconcile data to ensure that resulting is occurring in a timely manner and perform quality checks to ensure that proper specimen processing and handling. The HRTC will also maintain adequate supply stock to perform their duties.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm, rotating weekends and holiday

Requirements:

Job Responsibilities
Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
Requirements
Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meets local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
Histology and/or ASCP certifications are preferred
Previous experience in histology is preferred but not required
Previous histology experience is required without an Associate's degree
Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus
Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

Responsibilities
Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures, performs limited activities involved in the preparation of slides, for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s)
Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
Performs limited embedding and microtomy under direct supervision.
Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
Graduates of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program can perform special stains.
Perform coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, etc. after completing training on non-gynecological specimen types. This includes specimen preparation of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of non-complex equipment.
Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CMS and CAP regulations.
Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
