ACCELERATOR LABORATORY ENGINEER, Plasma Science and Fusion Center, to maintain, upgrade, and operate scientific and engineering equipment (e.g., ion accelerators, neutron generators, linear plasma devices and ancillary systems) located in the NW13 accelerator laboratories (and related equipment in PSFC laboratories); and operate scientific equipment (e.g. tensile testers, furnaces, SEM, EDX machines, etc.) in associated PSFC laboratories. There are three accelerators, two neutron generators, and one linear plasma device that will be directly maintained and operated. The NW13 accelerator laboratories will be utilized by ~20 scientific users (faculty, scientists, students) and responsibilities will include coordinating their accelerator time; training them as needed; and assisting in the design, building, and operating of their experiments. Will also provide safety training and oversee the functioning and safety of the laboratories. There will be significant decision-making on the day-to-day level in the execution of these responsibilities, and while there will be long-term direction from faculty and research scientists, the person in this role will be expected to independently and proactively identify and solve technical issues within the laboratory to ensure smooth scientific operations.

REQUIRED: a minimum of a master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or closely related field; at least five years' experience working with complex mechanical and/or scientific equipment; experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks) and finite-element analysis (e.g., COMSOL); hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication and assembly of mechanical and/or electrical systems; and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, and safety procedures involved in work with ion accelerators and related equipment.
