Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to conduct experimental tasks which contribute to the loss prevention solutions in the area of material flammability and fire dynamics under the supervision of senior research scientists.
The job responsibilities include:
- Design, fabricate and maintain mechanical/electrical test apparatus and instrumentations for reliable measurement of temperature, velocity, heat flux, energy release, etc.
- Perform scientific experiments on material flammability, fire dynamics and battery safety to obtain accurate and reliable data
- Work with senior scientists to conduct data analysis and problem solving

Qualifications:
The position requires Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical fields, with 3 years of related work experience in scientific/industrial labs.
Good understanding of mechanical and electrical principles necessary to conduct scientific experiment.
Strong hands-on mechanical laboratory skills required.
Capable of designing, fabricating, and trouble-shooting experimental apparatus as required.
Fundamental technical knowledge of combustion, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc.
Computer literacy - data acquisition software, programing using Python or Matlab, experience with computer design software such as Solidworks, AutoCAD
- Knowledge of personal and area safety in the working environment

This Research Assistant III will be responsible for:
General Duties:
+ Reviews and authorizes supply and equipment orders including all lab orders and monitors stocks of general supplies for re-ordering purposes.
+ Oversees maintenance of facility equipment, requesting repair services as needed.
+ Monitor lab members to ensure that they are adhering to safety guidelines and that they are reporting problems/injuries in a timely manner.
+ Negotiates service contracts and enlists other labs to participate in service contract cost prior to obtaining service contracts, schedules preventative maintenance and annual calibration of laboratory equipment and constantly makes sure lab equipment is in working order.

In order to qualify, you must have:
