Key Responsibilities: The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the oversight of assigned laboratory sections performing specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results in compliance with regulatory requirements, policy, and procedures. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments. Record, analyze, and report test results accurately. Follow established quality control procedures and safety protocols. Correlates laboratory results with clinical findings through chart review and consultation with nursing and medical staff. Provides instruction on basic theory, laboratory technique, instrumentation, and application of lab test procedures to new scientists, technicians, and staff. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and work in a team setting. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in laboratory, biological, chemical, or physical science, Healthcare, or Healthcare Management related field. As the Medical Technologist in our secondary facility, you are part of our highly competent medical team by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures and analysis which will aid in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of patients from multicultural and ethnic backgrounds that we serve in the island of Boracay. Below are the detailed job expectations for this opening: Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, stool, sputum and urine. Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures. Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests. Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information. Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures. Forecast needs, allocate resources, and/or take corrective action as necessary. * Provide oversight, support and back up to phlebotomy staff and their responsibilities including but not limited to: learn and utilize materials management ordering system, learn send-out processing and reporting, perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and patient preparation when necessary. * Ensure assigned staff complete training, competency, tests, and proficiency testing in all areas hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, etc. Ensure documentation is maintained per CMS retention requirements. * Select test methodology appropriate for clinical use of test result, verify test procedures performed, accuracy of each test and test system as it pertains to the specialty assigned reporting and maintaining records following guidelines for Panic Value results and STAT requests. * Establish a quality control (QC) program appropriate for the testing performed with parameters for acceptable levels of performance, ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout specimen analysis and monitor test analysis and specimen examinations through evaluation of QC records. * Resolve technical problems, monitor test analysis and specimen examination through evaluation of proficiency testing and ensure that remedial action is taken and communicated to all testing personnel when necessary * Participate in facilitating patient education throughout the Laboratory experience, reinforcing patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up * Ensure the ongoing maintenance of a safe and productive work environment. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or relevant Science Degree that is nationally registered or licensed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent. Minimum one (1) year of general laboratory experience. Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing situations, developing, and implementing appropriate solutions; must be able to effectively and efficiently make decisions independently. Strong interpersonal are required as well as effective writing, speaking and reading comprehensive skills. Ability to work independently without close supervision.
