Job Summary:
Nature of Work
Research Services Entry Professional Laboratory Sciences with special requirements for handling and processing biological tissue and fluid specimens for ongoing research projects in the Pathology Shared Resource. The position will be responsible in performing various administrative tasks, such as data entry, monitoring of clinic and surgery schedule for collection materials, communicating and coordinating with both internal and external clients of specimen collections, and incoming/outgoing shipments.
Examples of Duties Performed:
Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced
Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions
Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
Review and implement lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

The
PLM Analyst (Polarizing Light Microscope)
prepares and analyzes environmental samples according to scientific methodology in compliance with company Quality Assurance programs and SOP's. Sample analyses include but are not limited to air/bulk asbestos samples. The analyst will validate and review data for accuracy and will upload laboratory data into the LIMS that ultimately generates required reports to clients. Schedules sample workload according to due dates and sample hold times. Analysts will be trained according to current methodologies using job specific testing and equipment.
Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Login, prepare, and analyze environmental samples for asbestos.
Accurately enters and reports sample descriptions and analytical data using LIMS.
Performs independent QC analysis for other analysts' work.
Performs analysis of reference materials, proficiency samples. And other quality control samples as needed.
Maintains client service and provides technical support as needed.
Assists the QA manager in development, implementation and collection of QA processes for the different analytical tests.
Performs and completes all analytical testing QA related tasks as needed.
Assists in pursuing, receiving and maintaining necessary laboratory accreditations.
Co-ordinates projects according to their rush status and due time for timely delivery.
Assists co-workers on analytical questions, as necessary.
Follows company policies and procedures and ensures that coworkers are doing the same.

Works and communicates cooperatively with team members to identify and complete lab responsibilities and meet department goals.
Participates in department activities to improve patient care/lab systems, shares new information with all team members, attends team meetings and effectively orients/mentors new staff as requested.
Follows all procedures and policies and demonstrates competency and proficiency as required.
Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.
In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon Summit Pathology needs or requirements.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Education/experience: An earned associate degree (or higher) in a laboratory science obtained from an accredited institution. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Ability to work independently and to effectively problem-solve issues.
Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain necessary level of confidentiality to protect patient privacy.
Excellent customer service skills
Competency and accuracy using multiple computer systems.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, including medical terminology.
Previous data entry or laboratory/healthcare experience preferred.
