The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) role, under general supervision, performs analyses on a variety of sample types. Assures tests are completed in a timely manner per turnaround time expectations of the Department and that all pending test reports are reconciled in a timely manner.

We are seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/MLS) to support clinical laboratory operations at our Baltimore site. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting the Medical Oncologist and other healthcare professionals with clinical and administrative duties. This unit features 22 individual rooms across 2 hallways designed to care for adult patients requiring acute medical intervention. H3O3 cares for patients with various respiratory diseases such as pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, and lung transplant patients. They also see patients with varying medical conditions like GI disorders, cardiac disease, and endocrine disorders.
Clin Techs at The Johns Hopkins Hospital provide highly skilled and compassionate patient and family-centered care as a contributing member of the health care team. Each individual performing high complexity testing must: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results, Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens; Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed; Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance; Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director; Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The Public Health Clinical Laboratory Technicians must qualify under one of the following options: Be a doctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathy, or doctor of podiatric medicine licensed to practice medicine, osteopathy, or podiatry in the State in which the laboratory is located.
Have earned a doctoral, master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Have education and training equivalent to an associate's degree that includes at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: six (6) semester hours of chemistry, six (6) semester hours of biology; and twelve (12) semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND Have laboratory training that includes either of the following: Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS; or At least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/MLS) to support clinical laboratory operations at our Baltimore site. This on-site, as-needed role is ideal for laboratory professionals seeking schedule flexibility while contributing to meaningful clinical research that advances patient care.
The MLT/MLS will be responsible for the receipt, processing, and testing of biological specimens, performing waived and moderately complex laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA '88, Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP), and internal SOPs. Key Responsibilities:
Collect, accession, label, process, and prepare biological specimens for analysis
Perform waived and moderately complex clinical laboratory testing accurately and efficiently
Prepare and package samples for shipment in compliance with DOT and IATA regulations
Perform instrument start-up, calibration, quality control, and routine maintenance
Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and document corrective actions
Maintain accurate documentation for calibrations, QC, and quality assessments

Monitor reagent, supply inventory, and temperature logs
Support validation of new testing methods and procedures

Essential Position Responsibilities:
Learns how to review study protocol and ensure study tasks and data for pre-clinical research studies are conducted in accordance with established protocols, SOPs, GLPs, and other pertinent regulatory requirements.
Learns to serve as head technician for basic studies and to perform protocol review in preparation for PI meeting attendance. Position requires the ability to manage multiple studies within scope of expertise.

Receives extensive training in various technical procedures including: prosection of multiple species (rats, mice, rabbits, canines, primates) for necropsy
Receives extensive training in various technical procedures including: c-sections and various fetal examinations (externals, viscerals, heads, and skeletals) for DART.
Receives extensive training in various technical procedures including: basic use of the Hamilton Thorne Tox-IVOS System (sperm motility) and assist with various aspects of sperm analysis (density, spermatid head counts, and morphology) for SCVCE/Fertility.
Learns how to maintain equipment for base laboratory.
Learns how to maintain sanitation in the necropsy and DART rooms and the storage of supplies (if applicable).
Learns how to prepare stains and fixatives.
Learns to record observations and collect other relevant data via data capture systems and/or hand-generated forms in accordance with GLPs, SOPs, and protocol.
Learns and performs proper procedure for shipment of samples and maintenance of inventories.

Learns to recognize deviations, informs appropriately and documents with assistance.

The anticipated hourly salary for this position of $23.61 will depend, in part, on the successful candidate's qualifications for the role, including education and experience.
