Palm Springs Healthcare / Health Services - Laboratory / Pathology Exp 2-5 years Deg Bach Job Description The Lab Supervisor is responsible for the activities required to successfully operate one or more Sections within the Laboratory. This includes, but may not be limited to, the analytical procedures utilized, quality control of these procedures, instrument calibration and result reporting. In addition, procedures, controls and maintenance functions must be clearly written, up-to-date, and available and in the prescribed NCCLS format. Logs of all maintenance and repair activities will be kept up-to-date. The Section will exceed the minimum requirements established by the College of American Pathologists for their quality survey program. The Lab Supervisor will recommend instrument and procedure changes and/or upgrades that are designed to keep the Section state-of-the-art. The Lab Supervisor is required to have a working knowledge of the instrumentation and methods used within the Section. It is his/her responsibility to ensure that the instruments are functioning correctly and that there are reasonable and acceptable back up procedures for the times when instrumentation fails. The Lab Supervisor will order supplies in a manner that will consistently provide adequate materials, minimize outdated items and result in cost effective inventory levels. The Supervisor is expected to provide the leadership whenever exceptions occur, within the Section, and problem resolution or additional information is needed. This requires that the Supervisor maintain a competency level at which he/she is the resident expert. The Supervisor will provide the training to other Technologists in order to keep them informed and functioning at optimal competency. This will be documented and available.
