A Brief Overview Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties. Assumes responsibility for distinguishing between normal and abnormal clinical laboratory parameters and takes actions to assure all abnormals are rechecked. Alerts appropriate staff for abnormal results and documents these actions.
Communicates laboratory data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments and individuals in an accurate and timely fashion.
Critiques, correlates and differentiates results of tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals.
Participates with development of protocols, lab manuals, new instrumentation, lab CQI or other laboratory developmental activities.
Provides technical guidance to and be primary resource for various team members. Responsible for training new employees or co-workers on new equipment/procedures as applicable.
Provides instructions on proper pre-analytical specimen collection, specimen handling, and storage guidelines for various body fluids and/or may collect specimens as necessary.

Responds to clinical and customer concerns, independently resolves customer issues in a confidential manner, employing integrity and discretion.

Independently troubleshoots and resolves problems and documents corrective actions.
Attends/Leads mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to department.

JOB SUMMARY
The Laboratory Associate performs moderate and high complexity testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager. This position performs routine laboratory testing, quality control testing, general and instrument maintenance, calling of critical and questionable results to appropriate providers, and resulting of test using laboratory information systems. Additionally, this role performs general troubleshooting of instrumentation, communicating technical information to appropriate persons.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Sciences, including 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of any combination of chemical or biological sciences.
Experience: 1 year of laboratory testing experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Possess thorough knowledge and understanding or principles and concepts of medical laboratory science. Possess good analytical skill. Be part of a multidisciplinary team built with compassion and the goal of Moving Health Forward for you and our patients. The Sleep Lab Technologist is responsible for sleep studies and communicating with the patient and physicians.
Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedure in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and sleep laboratory protocols.
Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
Explains pre-testing, testing, and post testing procedures to the patient.
Also can understand and implement the Auto SV therapy.
Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary. Follows procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MLT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen Titration etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data.
Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.) Performs routine and complex equipment care and maintenance. Evaluates sleep study related equipment and inventory.
