Job Description
Purpose:
The Research Technician will work under general direction of the PI in the Raghavan Lab. The position is funded by grants from the Department of Defense, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), and NIH. Research is broadly in the areas of cancer mechanobiology and women's health. The individual hired for this position will perform 3D bioengineering techniques developed in the lab, perform routine cell and molecular biology assays (including but not limited to flow cytometry, qPCR). The individual will also assist with lab management and managing cryopreserved cell stocks and inventory.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate sample exchange from collaborators, inventory of cryopreserved cells and perform routine mammalian cell culture.
Routinely perform 3D tissue culture, cell and molecular biology assays for viability and other cell health.
Use laboratory equipment to analyze cell and tissue samples like flow cytometry, qPCR, microscopy; use computers to analyze data; organize and archive results.
Manage ordering of general lab materials and lab organization; maintain safety and assay protocols.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What is needed:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
What is helpful:
Master's degree strongly preferred.
Experience working in a research lab.
Previous experience handling mice.
Previous experience with performing RNA gene expression analysis, immunofluorescence.
Previous experience with tissue engineering, organoid and spheroid cultures or other 3D in vitro models.

**Essential Key Job Responsibilities**

3. Performs department support functions, ie culture plating, histology staining, specimen loading on instruments depending upon department needs and organization.
4. Reviews pending test lists to assist with department turnaround time.
5. Assists in solving problems, investigates specimen issues and customer inquiries. Provides information regarding specimen and testing status as appropriate.
6. Monitors and stocks department supplies and reagents. Logs reagents and supplies, following department protocols.
7. Performs and documents calibrations linearity, and/or instrument comparisons under the direction of medical technologist/technician.
8. Performs routine equipment maintenance and maintains records. Displays competency operating, trouble-shooting and maintaining equipment.
9. May perform phlebotomy. Follows blood collection procedures, performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, including blood bank collections. Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements.
10. As allowed by local and state regulations, may perform CLIA waived and moderately complex laboratory testing following written technical policies and procedures. Evaluates and releases test results under the direction of a Clinical Lab Scientist. Evaluates result validity considering quality control results, instrument performance, specimen integrity and prior patient results.

Job Summary

Vehicle and Mechanical Preparation (40%)
Prepare vehicles and mechanical systems for full-scale research experiments
Repair test vehicle engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, chassis, body, and other parts as needed
Prepare test vehicle by adding devices necessary to perform crash tests
Fabricate needed parts to conduct transportation research
Prepare test vehicle regarding installation of mechanical/electronic devices as directed
May perform duties of Tow Truck Operator during crash testing
May conduct field surveys, prepare vehicles or mechanical systems, and construct test articles and structures for research activities
Experiment Setup and Execution (20%)
Assist in conducting experiments at the test facility
Conduct and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects

JOB SUMMARY
:
Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Services provides leadership oversight to pre-analytical, specimen collection, specimen processing and/or laboratory support areas. As a leader in these areas, the supervisor must be an expert in specimen identification, specimen integrity, specimen accessioning and the best laboratory practice. Supervises the daily operations of a Laboratory Division or major function of a Clinical Laboratory. Possesses the technical and leadership skills to supervise personnel; coordinate operations, organize and improve workflow for the division; and communicate with staff, management, and senior leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:
· Responsible for recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, competency assessment, coaching, disciplinary action
and/or termination process of divisional employees.
· Supervises daily and technical operations and quality management activities for the division.
· Supervises the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning
laboratory work, evaluating work performed, and handling procedural and technical laboratory problems.
· Develops, reviews, and revises policies and procedures in accordance with departmental, hospital, and regulatory standards.
· Coordinates review and revision of the Laboratory Test Directory.
· Responsible for ensuring that the laboratory division functions with the appropriate level of staff to guarantee an efficient operation.
· Reviews and evaluates accuracy of lab data and reports patient results with all required documentation.
