POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor. May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs testing in an accurate and timely manner according to established policies and performance standards with a knowledge level determined for that testing. Responsible for startup, calibration and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Exercises independent judgment and can identify appropriate resources in performance of assigned duties utilizing knowledge and skills. Demonstrates comprehension of theory and clinical relevance of testing. Demonstrates problem resolution and decision-making skills for routine operational and technical problems. Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems used in the department and can perform basic troubleshooting of computer problems. Demonstrates awareness and complies with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements related to area of responsibility.
2. Recognizes and ensures validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results for testing. Ensures accuracy of test results. Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. Demonstrates appropriate resolution and follow through for problem solving identified during testing. Promotes and consistently meets department standards for productivity and quality
3. Ensures the appropriate use of supplies and materials and assists with inventory management. Ensures efficient utilization of reagents and supplies. Recognizes and provides input towards opportunities for improvements in financial performance to decrease costs, improve productivity, and improve service.
4. Self-directed and motivated to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor. Seeks out opportunities to identify projects relating to department needs. Active in training of laboratory personnel. Performs well in supervisor's absence and provides guidance on issues relating to pre-analytical, waived and non-waived testing. Completes all required training modules.
5. Communicates courteously, professionally, effectively and accurately with internal and external customers. Participates in the resolution of communication issues. Knows and utilizes appropriate resources for increased levels of problem solving. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills. Promotes positive communications that enhances teamwork. Attendance and participation at staff meetings.
6. May process and prepare patient samples as required which can include the following: 1) specimen collection 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. In doing so, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must meet one of the following criteria to qualify:
Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or
Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science (transcripts will be reviewed to determine eligibility).
Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489, or
Meet other criteria defined in 42CFR493.1489 or 42CFR493.1491 (including US military medical laboratory procedures training courses)
Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation) or other nationally recognized credentialing agency for review to determine eligibility and translated diploma.
Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in departments where applicable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
MLT certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and knowledge of medical terminology.
Previous experience with phlebotomy and processing.
Additional related education and/or experience.

Project Name: Infrastructure Lab Support Interns Preferred Degree: Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering. Project Description: The general objectives of these projects are to support research through data collection aimed at enhancing railway safety, performance, and efficiency. Supported projects may include, but are not limited to, rail inspections, slow-bend weld testing, electric flash butt (EFB) weld testing, and the development of work instructions and/or standard operating procedures. Funding for these projects may come from the Association of American Railroads as part of MxV Rail's Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) program, the Federal Railway Administration (FRA), MxV Rail's internal research and development efforts, and/or commercial customers.
Primary Duties:
* Learn, support, grow & have fun supporting projects with the Infrastructure and Metallurgy teams.
* Support laboratory and/or field-testing, including data collection system/sensor/equipment preparation, troubleshooting, test setup, collecting, analyzing, & data submittal.

Project Deliverables:
Assist the Instrumentation Team with a variety of tasks that may include:
* Rail Installation in FAST
* Creating and developing test plans for the FAST project managers. Manage an instrumentation plan and install strain gages on the rail. Coordinate with contractors for welding and other project needs. Work with the operations team to conduct testing and record results.
* Slow Bend Testing of Thermite Welds
* Work with project managers and the test instrumentation lead to perform a slow-bend test. Perform pre- and post-test measurements and collect data during testing. Create plots of the recorded data and analyze the trends present in the data.
* Cutting and Breaking EFB Welds
* Work with the Metallurgy Lab Team on the bandsaw and hydraulic press for test preparation. Document and analyze breaks for different EFB welds and assist project managers in recording test results. Work with the Metallurgy Lab Team on cutting and prepping samples.
* Work Instructions (WIs)and Statement of Procedures
* Assist Metallurgy lab staff in revising and writing WIs and SOPs. Revise already written Wis and SOPs and put them in the correct templates. Write new SOPs and WIs for new equipment.

Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Technologist
Reports to: Lab Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary: Performs all assigned laboratory testing and reporting procedures by performing the following duties.
Required Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs laboratory testing to include endocrinology assays, urinalysis, semen analysis, semen cryopreservation and semen wash.
Performs required quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing.
Maintains stock of necessary equipment, supplies, liquid nitrogen dewars, samples and other materials throughout the work area.
Routine maintenance, calibration and validation are performed as required.
Uphold all CNY Fertility procedures/protocols and accrediting agency regulations.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
* Learn to operate and assess MALDI mass spectrometry and/or cf TNA-based assays using human specimens.
* Explore cancer biology (hematological and solid tumors) and understand assay development for clinical diagnostics.
* Assist with lab workflows and ancillary duties.
* Analyze and synthesize experimental data, troubleshoot results, and maintain a detailed lab notebook.
* Present your findings to the Lab & Executive Leadership Teams at the end of the program.
