Associate Quality Assurance Technician
Laboratory technician job in Ames, IA
is 100% onsite at our office in Ames, Iowa. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. We are seeking an Associate Quality Assurance Technician. In this role, you will perform basic testing on new and existing products, identify and document defects, and support the QA team in ensuring product quality. You will also assist senior team members with moderately complex tasks, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to advanced quality assurance processes.
What You Will Do
Respond to direction and guidance as part of an apprenticeship to a senior team member
Establish a high level of code quality by executing test cases at the acceptance testing level as part of the functional testing or regression testing of the product
Record defects found and provide sufficient information for the resolution of those defects
Assist user documentation and technical support by assembling and providing concise and accurate information in regards to software functionality
Maintain a basic knowledge and stay current with trends associated with software testing and quality assurance
Attend all meetings necessary for the seamless delivery of the product as part of the Software Development Life Cycle
Travel/Physical Demands
Travel typically less than 10%. Office environment. No special physical demands required.
Qualifications
What You Will Have:
1-2 years of related experience
High school education, vocational training, or on-the-job training
Knowledge of software testing tools, test cases, test plans, test suites, and issue tracking tools
Ability to interpret and execute test cases using applicable test management software
Commitment to staying current with quality assurance processes and best practices in the software industry
Excellent time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and establish productive relationships at multiple levels
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical diagnostic skills
Ability to plan, arrange, and oversee multiple or complex projects

The posted range for this position is $24.00-$26.00 per hour which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc.

JOB SUMMARY
The Lab Technician, working in an accredited commercial laboratory, is responsible for performing various laboratory functions such as preparing media and/or samples of a variety of sample types for analysis, performing routine laboratory maintenance efforts, and is responsible for basic set up and operation of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to support exceptional Customer Experience (CX).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Following established SOP's, Laboratory Technicians ensure customer satisfaction by supporting laboratory staff through executing various entry level laboratory duties, resulting in the timely and accurate reporting of data
Gather appropriate materials needed to prepare and analyze test samples
Sample receipt, login, storage and disposal
Prepare necessary standards, solutions, media, etc., that are required for sample analyses
Perform basic equipment and instrumentation set up and operation
Execute routine laboratory maintenance efforts, such as glassware cleaning and sterilization, and ensuring the laboratory is well maintained
Accurately record observations and data
Maintain accurate, up to date logs, notebooks and equipment records
Perform necessary laboratory administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, reviewing of data, and entering data into computerized LIMS
Comply with and promote Personnel, Safety, and Quality Program

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Research Focus and Techniques
The scientist will investigate the fundamental physics of magnetic and superconducting quantum materials, with particular attention to mechanisms of quantum decoherence in superconducting qubits and strategies to mitigate them. To achieve these objectives, advanced characterization and sensing tools-such as NV‑center diamond magnetometry, frequency‑domain susceptometry (e.g., tunnel‑diode, microwave cavity perturbation and coplanar waveguide resonators), as well as real‑space magneto‑optical Kerr and Faraday imaging will be used. Interest and ability to develop novel approaches or expand existing techniques is a strong plus. Familiarity with commercial platforms (e.g., Quantum Design PPMS/MPMS) is beneficial, with an expectation to adapt experimental methods as project evolves.
