May prepare specimens for cytopathologic examination. Evaluates cytologic material for carcinoma or other diagnoses and completes all daily assigned screening. Reviews quality of staining and the adequacy of the specimen to support an adequate diagnosis. In complex cases, evaluates all information available and determines whether analysis results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist. Assists the Pathologist and Radiologist on fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures and is competent in giving an adequacy assessment. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science. Other bachelors degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of cytotechnology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency. Education Exception: Bachelors degree may be waived for a Cytotechnolgist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelors degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services. At least two years of experience. Experience in Gynecological, Non-gynecological and FNA cytology preferred. This is a day, 3/ 12 hour shifts per week position. 2 years of oncology APP experience preferred. Responsibilities include: Assists in the evaluation and treatment of patients. Documents the delivery of care in the individual's medical records. Conducts patient interviews and documents patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status and medical problems or potential problems. Under the direction of a physician, performs physical examinations and specialized diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures including cast application and removal, wound suturing and dressing changes. Assists physician in diagnosing medical problems, developing care plans, and prescribing treatment. Orders, schedules and/or performs laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy and blood tests, and x-rays. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a chemical, physical or biological science. Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency. Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services. Two years of medical technology or HLA experience (Medical Laboratory Technician experience is pro-rated).
