Utilizes SQC methods to flag deviations from accurate results and corrects the situation before there are significant impacts on the business. Use the Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs to proactively maintain lab results within desirable accuracies. Must be available to work night shifts and conduct chemist duties on the rare occasion a technician will be working alone. Must be available to work after hours when necessary. Must be on-call for some non-work hours/days. Perform initial troubleshooting of instruments and coordinator repairs, if needed. Develop troubleshooting skills of Crew Leaders and Lab Technicians. Ensure laboratory equipment and solutions are properly maintained. Develops and administers maintenance and calibration procedures. Directs troubleshooting when results are questioned. Ensures that calibration and maintenance programs are adhered to as required by military contracts. Updates quality control procedures as required. Represents the laboratory at industry-sponsored meetings, seminars, etc. Evaluates new methods and equipment for possible implementation in the laboratory. Develops and maintains FTIR models. Assists in the administration of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Controls and orders all laboratory supplies. Develops the training program for laboratory technicians in testing procedures. This position requires organization and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and production requirements. Performs chemical microscopic and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease applying techniques used in fields of bacteriology or mycology, hematology and/or chemical examinations. Essential Responsibilities: Receives specimens from laboratory or obtains such body materials as urine, blood, pus and tissue directly from patient and makes quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis and does routine cultures. Performs blood tests and study morphology of blood. Obtains blood specimen for performance of all hematological examinations and clinical chemical analysis requested for each patient. Performs routine hematological examinations following established laboratory procedures, methods and techniques using microscope and centrifuge. Performs routine procedures for macro and microscopic analysts of urine. Records and reports results of tests and examinations performed. 1. Completes and submits daily compaction reports which include a detail drawing of test locations in the work area to the QC Supervisor, Project Managers and/or Project Engineers. 2. Uses nuclear gauge to test field density and sets up the daily rolling patterns in the field. a. Chalks the field density at specific locations for references for inspectors, Roller Operators and Forepersons. b. Works directly with Roller Operators to determine the appropriate number of passes for each roller in order to achieve the specified compaction. 3. Cuts and tests core samples. a. Cuts the appropriate number of cores at each location daily or by the next morning. b. Labels and submits cores to the Project Manager / Project Engineer with data thoroughly recorded on a standard transmittal form. c. Follows department protocol when handling and storing cores to ensure core quality and prevent damage during transport. d. Submits daily/weekly core reports to the QC Supervisor, Project Manager and/or Project Engineer in accordance with department procedures. 4. Performs field sampling of hot mix asphalt (HMA) as determined by department protocol. 5. Takes daily jobsite photos before and after paving and stores photos in the department's computer files. 6.
