Objective of the Job: A Chemical Lab Technician supports the LMF and Degasser Group in the identification of material, gathering real-time product data to assist in product testing for certification, and assisting Operations in equipment readiness. Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Ensure Safety as a top priority, adhere to Environmental and quality requirements and “where applicable” Responsible Steel requirements. 2) Verify onsite analytical equipment in accordance with On-site Laboratory Scope and Controls and support laboratory functions as needed. 3) Ensure a clean and organized work area in Melt Shop Lab. 4) Support all monitoring and measuring devices requirements and needs. 5) Assist with sample preparation. 6) Support metallurgists in gathering key information and materials for prompt disposition of production coils to ensure customer satisfaction in support of scheduling and delivery lead times. Qualifications: 1) Associate degree/Diploma in Production Engineering/Industrial Engineering/Materials Engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of industrial working experience, OR At least 5 years of Steel Industry working experience after high school diploma is a plus but not required. 2) Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization. 3) Strong computer skills for L3 and other production system. 4) Knowledge and experience in Steel CSP Mills - Mini Mills preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely climb, lift and move heavy objects during shift may be required.
