Work involves cleaning of laboratory glassware, preparation of 7H10 and 7H11 medias, buffers, sterilization procedures, and sterilization of contaminated biohazard materials prior to disposal. Aids technical personnel with labeling of prepared media, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment, such as sterilizers, glassware washer, water bath, etc. Review, interpret, and reports ATTEST results to monitor sterilizer performance. Assists in receiving and accessioning Mycobacteriology specimens. Inputs Mycobacteriology smear and susceptibility results onto LIMS LabWare. Examples of Work Performed
Outreach work for the Pulmonary Clinic: does home visits, TB Skin testing, delivers DOT/DOPT to patients.
Working in patient homes and in Health department. Performs lab and clinical procedures per Health department protocol including blood specimen accessions vital signs, urinalysis, visual acuity & ishahara screening, pregnancy tests. Separates plasma from whole blood, applies and interprets TB skin tests, diabetes screening, prepares blood and sputum specimens for mailing, and does computer data entry on all the above.
Assists in Chest Clinic Performance Standards: Performs some clerical duties as assigned. Pulls patients records. Pulls chest x-rays Gives return chest clinic appointment and logs in appointment book and patient record. Performs weights, heights, blood pressures, & temperatures and follows Health Department Policies & Procedures Collects natural sputums as directed.
Makes home visits and explains the reason for contact investigation. Explains reason for 90 day skin test follow-up. Conducts PPD testing to all household contacts to suspected infectious cases.
Provides transportation for TB patients to Texas Center for Infectious Disease, Chest Clinics as assigned per supervisor.
Documents appropriately on medication Toxicity Sheet (TB206/206-A). Records problems or changes a patient may be having with TB medication. Is familiar with TB medication and side effects.
Screens phone calls for nurses and assists X-Ray tech as needed.
Prepares reports as assigned by supervisor.
Maintains refrigerator temperature log.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
May be required to work other than normal or scheduled hours including weekends and holidays.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Graduation from a high school or equivalent (GED).
Certified/Registered Medical Assistant in Texas.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration:
Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license
Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (with or without accommodations)
Patient relationships: Will greet and welcome the patient in a pleasant, respectful, culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Arrive patients and complete the lab visit in EMR system, following established lab workflows (SOP). Assure all patient questions are answered in a positive and cordial manner. Assures the patient has a clear understanding of all communications. Ensures lab orders are verified and ready for patients with a lab appointment; remind the patient of the importance of keeping the appointment and/or communicating any changes.
Management of patient care: Collects appropriate specimens for testing and instructs patients on specimen collection. Completes lab orders in EMR for all tests requested and collected; Prepare and process specimens that are sent out to reference laboratories when necessary; performs patient testing and reporting as described in the Laboratory Manual. Performs routine tests with accuracy and precision under minimal/no supervision. Follows established SOP when transcribing in-house lab results electronically; tracts, reconcile and reviews lab reports daily or as needed: follows policies in place for priority and panic value reporting.
Management of patient information: Delivers panic lab results to ordering or assigned provider with log. Performs quality control measures to validate test results and monitor QC data and participate in an external proficiency testing program. Will keep and maintain all laboratory records and controls on file for 2 years. Organize and upkeep QC records for monthly review. Adheres to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic; Communicates patient information as requested to enhance patient services.
Team communication: Participates in department huddles. Approaches patient care as a team involving clinical
and non-clinical staff (eg. Physicians, mid-levels, educators, appointments staff) to achieve patient care objectives. Inform

The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the screening and reporting of negative gynecological cytology cases, and identifying and referring abnormal cases to the pathologist. Ensures lab orders are verified and ready for patients with a lab appointment; remind the patient of the importance of keeping the appointment and/or communicating any changes.
Management of patient care: Collects appropriate specimens for testing and instructs patients on specimen collection. Completes lab orders in EMR for all tests requested and collected; Prepare and process specimens that are sent out to reference laboratories when necessary; performs patient testing and reporting as described in the Laboratory Manual. Performs routine tests with accuracy and precision under minimal/no supervision. Follows established SOP when transcribing in-house lab results electronically; tracts, reconcile and reviews lab reports daily or as needed: follows policies in place for priority and panic value reporting.
Management of patient information: Delivers panic lab results to ordering or assigned provider with log. Performs quality control measures to validate test results and monitor QC data and participate in an external proficiency testing program. Will keep and maintain all laboratory records and controls on file for 2 years. Organize and upkeep QC records for monthly review. Adheres to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic; Communicates patient information as requested to enhance patient services.
Team communication: Participates in department huddles. Approaches patient care as a team involving clinical
and non-clinical staff (eg. Physicians, mid-levels, educators, appointments staff) to achieve patient care objectives. Inform
Supervisor of supplies needed and /or orders supplies as needed.
Demonstration of safer and professional conduct: Calibrates instruments where applicable, maintains instruments following manufacturer recommendations/ troubleshooting procedures. Keeps work area clean and disinfected daily. Records temperature reading daily for control devices; participates in continuing education and attends required meetings. Submits require credential documents in a timely manner (license, certification, etc.). Maintain a friendly and safe environment for self and others. Will refrain from texting and speaking on cell phone while on duty. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with clinic leave policy. Refrain from informal communication with patients and others. Responsible for our own safety as well as the safety of others. Utilizes PPE and maintains safety measures; follows guidelines in effect.

Phlebotomy experience of all age groups and experience in working with the public. Current BLS/CPR Certification required. MLT Certification preferred. This position requires an initial N95 mask fit testing and annual test fitting thereafter unless there is a significant change during the year that requires retesting prior to the annual fit testing.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Due to the nature of SCF Services, it may be necessary for employees to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care of patients and to maintain service to the community. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: This position requires travel. Employees must provide transportation.
