The Department of Pathobiology and Veterinary Science (PVS) in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR), University of Connecticut (UConn), invites applications for a Director for the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (CVMDL). The position will be a non-tenure track, clinical faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Clinical Professor. The appointment includes directing the CVMDL and contributing to departmental teaching. The CVMDL is a nationally recognized veterinary diagnostic laboratory located on the UConn Storrs campus. It is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians - the only veterinary diagnostic laboratory in New England with this accreditation - which certifies the laboratory's quality and competence through a rigorous Quality Management System. The CVMDL is a member of national and regional laboratory groups, including the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN), the Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network (Vet-LiRN), and the New England Wildlife Disease Cooperative (NWDC), and is a National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) authorized laboratory. The Diagnostic Testing Services (DTS) section within the CVMDL manages the coordination and delivery of routine and specialized diagnostic tests. Verify sample integrity and storage conditions upon arrival. Perform qualitative and quantitative testing for pathogens and indicator organisms using qPCR or ELFA technologies. Assist in conducting shelf-life studies, challenge studies, and environmental monitoring analyses. Prepare, dilute, and plate samples using standard ISO, BAM, USDA-FSIS, and FDA methods. Record and verify lab data for accuracy before releasing client pathogen reports. Communicate findings to experienced staff and assist with client inquiries. Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a contamination-free workspace. Adhere to ISO quality management standards and regulatory compliance requirements. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Assist with proficiency testing and participate in internal training programs. Support special projects, including new product testing. Essential Skills Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including pipetting and aseptic techniques. Strong microbiology skill set with knowledge in PCR, sterile processing, and titration. Ability to adapt to workflow changes and maintain attention to detail in data entry. Experience in microbiology testing on food, with 1 to 2 years of experience with a degree or 4 to 5 years without a degree. Attention to detail is critical. Basic computer skills Knowledgeable and capable of the execution all aspects of test procedures. Washlab Technician duties: Aid in the execution of laundry product performance testing for prototype assessment and/or advertising claim substantiation. Executes with excellence routine testing methodologies (Stain Removal, Softening, etc), once properly trained. Follow standard operating procedures (washing, drying, test preparation, staining, etc). Independent test preparation (labeling fabrics, labeling towels, preparing stains/fabrics, etc). Operating instrumentation and automation. Interact with test requesters to ascertain product and any additional test design specification, if needed. Responsible to ensure stains are produced correctly, applied accurately and the final result is acceptable. Responsible for the cleanliness and order of the wash lab.
