    The Research Laboratory Technician III provides technical knowledge and expertise in clinical laboratory analysis by assisting with bench top experiments, preparing and assisting with the experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing reports. Takes vital signs (i.e., temperature, pulse, and blood pressure) and checks hemoglobin and/or hematocrit levels, ensuring prospective donors are eligible to donate blood. 3 Strips, segments, weighs, and stores whole blood units. Maintains legible and accurate records in accordance with regulatory requirements for all procedures (e.g., test results, collection, preparation, processing, inventory, shipping, quality control). Collects and maintains quality control data and records as required. 7 Provides input to the supervisor in evaluating new instrumentation, procedures, and products for possible future use. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of immunohematology and of serological testing of donor units.     Who we're looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Lab Assistant with the Specimen Procurement Team at the University of Washington Medical Center - Northwest. Whether you are processing and preparing specimens for testing, performing blood draws on patients, or providing excellent customer service, you are influencing the timely and accurate diagnosis of patients at UW Medicine and beyond. Work schedule: 1.0 FTE Monday - Friday with rotating weekends (to be discussed with candidate Evening Shift What you'll contribute: Performs assigned semi-technical procedures. This may include any of the following or similar duty assignments: Phlebotomy : Obtains specimens from inpatients, outpatients, and outreach accounts according to the time guidelines established by the department. This may include driving to outpatient account locations to obtain specimens if assigned the “Driving” responsibility. Specimen Processing : Logs tests in the computer and labels, centrifuges, prepares, aliquots, and delivers specimens. Reference Lab Sample Preparation : Processes, prepares, and ships reference lab samples according to reference laboratory specifications. Follows laboratory protocols, policies and safely procedures. Answers technical questions relating to laboratory procedures and policies. Troubleshoots and resolves problems and customer service issues. Examples include, but are not limited to, pending orders and specimen draws, finding lost specimens, add-on tests, and scanning specimens into storage application. When unable to resolve an issue in a timely manner, asks supervisor or lead for assistance. Reporting : Locates patient results and generates reports/faxes. Competently uses computers systems (i.e., LIS, HIS). Work environment, supplies, equipment, and waste handling. Maintains a clean and organized working environment. Ensures assigned areas are stocked with appropriate, cost-effective levels of supplies and reagents. Takes inventory and orders supplies when needed. Handles (opens packages, properly stores) incoming supplies. Maintains assigned equipment according to laboratory procedures. Disposes of specimens and other hazardous waste safely and appropriately according to established laboratory protocols. Support and collaboration. Assists in training new personnel. Works professionally as part of a team and assists other team members as requested; shares knowledge/expertise. Participates in achieving established patient safety, departmental goals, and performance improvement activities. What you'll need: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Current Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist certification (MA-P) with the Washington State Department of Health (please enter your certification information on your application).
