Research Technician - Entry Level (8427) Duda Farm Fresh Foods is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Research Technician to join our dynamic Research and Development team in Salinas, CA. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a sophisticated and large-scale celery breeding program, while also providing technical support to both the celery and radish breeding initiatives. This position is responsible for assisting in all technical aspects of the breeding programs, including, but not limited to, assisting with the filling of trial seed packets, sowing seed in the greenhouses and cages, planting selections from the breeding programs, performing hand pollinations for the radish breeding program, monitoring the greenhouse and cages in the greenhouse yard and Island for any plant health issues and communicating any issues to a supervisor, harvesting seed from selections and research cages, cleaning research seed, conducting germination tests, and any other day to day activities warranted by the breeding programs. Harvesting and cleaning seed from selections and research cages. Conducting germination tests and accurately recording the results. Sowing seed in the greenhouses and cages, planting selections from the breeding programs, and performing hand pollinations for the radish breeding program. Assist with the packaging of trial seed. Evaluate seed crops to ensure purity and trueness to variety with a priority on hybrids but inclusive of OP's (especially the male parents). Work with the team to ensure protocols are maintained and/or improve purity and seed quality. Other Duties as assigned. Tasks include routine embedding and cutting of Surgical and BX tissues. The technician will have the ability to prepare and examine slides under the microscope to ensure QC requirements are met. Key Responsibilities * Perform phlebotomy services, including venipuncture and skin punctures, and collect specimens according to provider orders * Process, label, and prepare laboratory specimens for in-house and external testing * Perform basic and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived laboratory tests as permitted by training and licensure * Enter and maintain accurate patient and laboratory information in electronic medical records * Assist with laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance, sterilization, and infection control procedures * Support patient flow and assist clinic staff during periods of high patient volume * Communicate with vendors, external laboratories, and SWC staff to support laboratory operations * Participate in meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and equipment * Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn laboratory safety and quality assurance practices, understand the hazards of specimen handling, and initiate appropriate safety or emergency procedures * General knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology appropriate to the duties assigned and laboratory operations * Proficiency in specimen collection and phlebotomy, including proper venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques * Ability to perform assigned medical technical support services, standard tests, and limited CLIA-waived procedures with accuracy and attention to detail * General knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations, including those governing clinical laboratory operations, CLIA-waived testing, patient confidentiality, and related state and federal requirements * Ability to collect and compile medical histories and related data, ensuring accuracy in documentation, data entry, and recorded information * Strong administrative and organizational skills and the ability to troubleshoot office administration issues, prioritize multiple tasks, and anticipate problems and their broader impacts * Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment. * Effective communication across a variety of venues, including the ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence * Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist * Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate manage sensitive communications involving patients, employees, and external agencies Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent * Possess and maintain valid certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, which permits the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture * Six (6) to twelve (12) months of related experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities Preferred Qualifications * At least two (2) years of working in the healthcare field, with at least one year in phlebotomy * At least one (1) year of demonstrated experience providing operational assistance to a laboratory, including schedules and communication with patients * At least one (1) year of demonstrated experience processing laboratory tests under supervision and appropriate to licensure Compensation Classification: Phlebotomist/Clinical Laboratory Assistant Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,885/month - $5,082/month (Step 14 - Step 16) CSU Salary Range: $3,776/month - $5,287/month (Step 1 - Step 18) San José State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary.
