We are seeking an experienced Histologist to join the Biochemical Production (BCP) team in Carpinteria. As a key member of the Operations team in Carpinteria, you will join a small small group responsible for control cell line slide production and maintenance of the Operations tissue bank. The team works closely with other manufacturing and QC groups to meet production targets and complete continuous improvement initiatives.
Carry out Microtomy in support of diagnostic product development, production and quality control.
Perform IHC staining procedures as part of in-process quality control testing.
Work closely with Planning and Finish Production to efficiently schedule and complete Histology orders to support pilot and commercial cancer diagnostic kit productions.
Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, intermediates, and QC materials to ensure adequate supply of production and QC materials for downstream processes. Utilize ERP and LIMs systems for creation/closure of production batches, internal tissue orders, material transactions, and other production and non-production work.
Maintain Operations Histology Lab and perform all tasks adhering to good manufacturing practices (GMP).
Responsible for routine/daily preventative maintenance/cleaning of Histology equipment when in use.
Independently fill production requests as needed to support ongoing production needs
Communicate production issues and actively develop solutions. Act as SME to identify risk, and improve processes.
Create and revise technical procedures, SOPs, forms and similar as needed. Process document updates within PLM systems (AGILE) for revisions, and non-conformance reporting.
Represent Histology department in various cross-functional initiatives.
Maintain training records
Participate in technology validation and audit support when required.
Qualifications
Degree or certification in related field preferred but not required
Microtomy experience required, preferably from a production environment

POSITION OVERVIEW
The QC Lab Technician will operate within the Quality Control arm of the Quality and Regulatory Affairs Department. In this role, the QC Lab Technician will conduct physical laboratory tests in support of research and development and commercial product testing programs using various scientific equipment and bench chemistry techniques. The QC Lab Technician will be expected to learn and understand the requirements for Corporate Food Safety and Quality, ensuring all QC objectives are met. The ideal candidate must be adaptable to a dynamic work environment, willing to learn, and willing to collaborate with all functional groups.
Quality Control is an integral part of the Quality and Regulatory Affairs team, which ensures a full slate of safe, wholesome, and clinically effective food products in their development and finished phases meet set standards of quality, uniformity, and performance. To further our advancement in plant-based nourishment, Kate Farms has established the Innovation and Quality Center in Goleta, where a Pilot Plant, along with a state-of-the-art laboratory, is situated to support evaluation of R&D-scale production, Product Development, Quality Control, and full-scale analytical and functional testing. The QC Lab Technician will be immersed in game-changing food technology and support advanced testing activities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Perform required routine and non-routine finished product tests in support of hold and release of commercial products according to SOPs.
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments (pH, viscosity and density meters, solid analyzer, balances, etc.) and support miscellaneous testing needs with these instruments.
Accurately record test results in LIMS, report any out-of-specification results, and assist with investigations.
Use Excel spreadsheets and basic formulas to perform calculations.
Support third-party laboratory test submissions, including electronic submittals, sample shipping, tracking, notifications, receiving reports, and data entry.
Manage lab supplies and product inventory for the QC team and ensure adequate supply for various test needs.
Help with organizing and maintaining the retention sample library.
Maintain current knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and required regulatory compliance.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to local, state, and federal regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lab Technician supports ongoing research activities by preparing, processing, and analyzing biological samples, using a range of analytical instruments and laboratory equipment. This role focuses on the operation, calibration, and maintenance of biochemistry analyzers, including YSI systems and similar analyzers, as well as general lab support such as centrifugation, sample storage, and documentation. The position requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and familiarity with standard laboratory procedures. This is a contingent position, shifts are variable in length, staffed on an as-needed basis to support laboratory operations and research demands. This is an onsite position.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, calibrate, and maintain biochemistry analyzers and other analytical instruments according to manufacturer and laboratory protocols.
Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality checks on lab equipment.
Prepare and process
blood and urine samples for analysis following established protocols.
Utilize and maintain a range of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges of various capacities, ultra-low temperature freezers, point-of-care instruments, and other analytical devices.
Accurately record and report data, maintaining detailed logs of calibration, maintenance, and quality control activities.
Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures at all times.
Assist with general laboratory operations, including supply inventory and reagent preparation.
Support ongoing validation, verification, and quality assurance activities as directed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Lab Technician or Medical Technologist (preferably in a clinical or research setting).
Experience with YSI analyzers or similar instrumentation is highly desirable.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and adherence to quality and compliance standards.
Strong technical and troubleshooting skills for laboratory equipment.
Proficiency with basic laboratory techniques and sample handling.
Excellent recordkeeping, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow detailed protocols.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The ability to read, write, and speak English clearly is mandatory. The ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, SOPs, and procedures is critical and an understanding of and ability to communicate in scientific language is desired.
