    This position is responsible for performing routine testing on all samples in the Analytical Services laboratory. The role provides essential analytical data for process control, quality control, process development, product development, and waste management. Responsibilities + Perform routine analytical testing as directed by protocols and work instructions. + Prepare solutions, clean glassware, and dispose of solid/liquid waste to assist in overall laboratory operations. + Alert lab leadership of issues or discrepancies involving sample integrity, supply inventory, safety concerns, or analysis irregularities. + Communicate troubleshooting opportunities in testing processes. + Conduct basic operational preventative maintenance according to work instructions. + Understand and operate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Chromatography Data System (CDS), and other instrument-specific computer systems. + Search various databases for test methods, specifications, and standards to complete analyses. + Promptly and accurately record, calculate, and report analytical results. + Review analytical data and various LIMS reports. + Identify process improvement ideas and communicate opportunities. + Assist in improving established procedures and implementing continuous improvement projects. + Communicate testing results to customers as required, acting with customers in mind. + Notify leads when supplies/consumables are at critical levels. + Observe good safety and housekeeping practices. + Participate in lab/site safety programs and cross-site initiatives. + Maintain knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, waste codes, and how to immediately communicate discovery of spills and leaks.     Research Technician II - Hall Lab Are you fascinated by the bizarre world of small, wiggly, often regenerative invertebrates? The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Research Technician II to join the Hall Lab. Our lab is motivated by the simple premise that we shouldn't be limited to studying biology only in established “model” organisms. We are developing a suite of molecular and imaging tools to enable genetic engineering in diverse emerging model organisms, with the goal of understanding how stem cells support regeneration across the tree of life. Roles & Responsibilities The selected candidate will work closely with the PI to support the lab's research efforts by: Developing and refining techniques to maintain and expand an array of emerging model invertebrates (with a strong emphasis on flatworms). Contributing to molecular cloning that support transgenesis and gene editing strategy development. Performing experiments to characterize regeneration, life history traits, and phenotype variation across species. Maintaining thorough documentation (protocols, experimental records, colony/line tracking) and contributing to lab organization and best practices. The ideal candidate is curious, creative, and resilient in the face of experimental setbacks. They work independently when needed, communicate clearly, and consistently incorporate feedback to improve. What You'll Be Doing Animal husbandry to maintain several species of emerging model flatworms and related invertebrates. Working with the Invertebrate Culture Facility to develop and implement more automated, standardized husbandry workflows. Characterizing life-cycle traits and regenerative capabilities across diverse flatworm species (including phenotyping with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and performing genetic perturbations with CRISPR and RNAi). Performing molecular cloning using techniques such as bacterial transformation, minipreps, PCR, gel electrophoresis, restriction digestion, Golden Gate assembly, and Gibson assembly. The ability to oversee a small project/job with supervision of personnel. Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Handles hazardous materials including inventorying, identifying, segregating, and packaging waste material in accordance with Lab Pack policies, procedures and practices and all applicable regulations. Occasionally performs onsite services which may include waste collection, consolidation (i.e., bulking, repackaging), sampling, safety/compliance inspections, and other related activities required by the customer/contract. Assists other business groups, i.e., Depack, Retail and HHW, for both internally and onsite as needed. Preparing shipment of packaged waste by inspecting, labeling, marking, and loading into the transport vehicle Properly completes documentation including shipping papers, Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR's), evaluations/certifications and other required documentation in accordance with appropriate regulations and procedures. Follows, understands, and promotes by example, all Health & Safety /Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) procedures including development of on-site Health &Safety plans/JSA's as outlined in the procedures and policies, Submit Lab Packs for approval to third party outlets. Perform unknown field testing for classification and packaging for transportation and disposal. Mentor and assist new employees in lab pack work duties. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate College degree in area of General Science or equivalent experience Clean driving record Occasional travel Physical ability to lift and move material of various weights frequently exceeding 55 lbs.
